Trying to change the fuel injector pump on 96 diesel.
Got all bolts off bar the bolt connecting pump to fuel. It keeps on turning inside and fuel leaking out
How do we stop this. Best way to get the pump off

... bought it off said it ran but stalled, does this point to the injector pump? As I said before it's currently connected up.to a can of diesel and it's drawn the diesel up and held it there, but don't appear to be any coming out ...

On the diesel, the belt that drives the water pump is the same one as the alternator, so there will be no coolant flow! Not a good idea....

Hi have you checked the input gauze/filter into the fuel pump? Remove the main fuel pipe to the pump from filter and out should come a ... with a brass ring around it. This gets blocked with swarf and poor diesel over 27 years (hold up to a light you will see it blocked) and causes ...

In the past weeping from the water pump (at least on the diesel) has also been a cause as it only happens when the engine is running, not sure if this could be a similar problem on the petrol 2l ?

Oh glad its a "simple" fix some of the diesel pump seals are easy but others are a lot more of a problem!

Update - seems it was a split pipe/hose from the diesel pump. Someone is coming to fix it in the morning. Fingers crossed that will be it and we can start our holiday

... has a little thimble filter on the end inside the tank, this could be blocked or restricted a little. Take off the pipe that goes into the fuel pump and blow back to the tank, when clear try sucking back towards the pump to help it prime. The tank itself also has a breather and one-way valve ...
