Thanks to Mwnci & clan for organising this, definitely uncharted territory for all of us and a lovely site with great facilities. For anyone contemplating the Gower I would definitely recommend this site. Nice to meet up with some familiar faces and some new ones too.

Having taken 8 hours to get there on Friday, it took us 10 to get home on Sunday. They really should do something about those roads

but can a Welsh-speaker please explain how Dinbych-y-Pysgod and Tenby are the same thing?

Not a welsh speaker, but husband was born there so here goes. They are the same place but not the same thing at all.

Tenby is Tenby and has been for a long time, like centuries. It was not a welsh speaking area in recent times and this part of Pembrokeshire was known as little England beyond Wales. Just look at any map at the place names. This area was settled by vikings and most trade routes were sea to England rather than land to Wales. When welsh came back to the area, a welsh name was sought for the place. Non existed from recent times so history books were searched and Dinbych-y-Pysgod was found. This is the welsh for little fort of the fishes. It refers to the walled town and that the locals fished when it was the off season for piracy.

Looks like you had a superb meet ... planning to stay there for a few nights from 20 Aug after a dog show at Builth and your reports have made my mind up ... and then we are taking 19 dogs on one of the beaches on the Sunday (as thankfully some of them are dog friendly ) as a reward ... think im looking forward more to that than the show - hope I get weather as good as you lot had!

Anyone who fancies coming down is welcome to (only 1 Newfy will be camping im sure you will be pleased to know!)

Planning on staying there this Friday again with a friend to get away from what's going on in London. If anyone's there come and say hello Not difficult to find the bongo with flowers all over it

Kennexstone is a nice site with good facilities. But it's a fair distance from the beach in our pics, it's a good couple of miles on narrow roads and you end up paying £3.00 to park at the Hillend campsite ( http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/t/Hil ... a-1108.htm ) which was full and you can't book. No complaints, but you'll need to remain mobile to get to the beach. Or cheat and have a car on standby to do the ferrying

Noticed immediately that the hideaway home of Gwen & Rhys in Torchwood was the farm halfway between Rhossili and Llangennith with the chase between the 4 wheel drive and a helicopter along the beach. http://www.the-gower.com/villages/Rhoss ... hwood.html

One point to watch on this site if you have dogs is the presence of sheep in the next field. If you have a dog who reacts to them, make sure you have a pitch which is not up against the fence to this field. Welsh sheep are fairly nosey and will investigate anything close to them so you will have a noisy whining dog reacting to their presence. Other than this it is a great site with a fenced paddock for dog walking.

It is a drive to Llangennith beach, but it is vast and dogs are allowed. Most local pubs allow dogs as well. The Kings Head in Llangennith is fine as is the Greyhound in Old Walls. Just beware the Greyhound's very chewy lamb pie. For good Welsh lamb try the farm shop at Weobley Castle instead.
