Random electric windows problem.

Here's one to get your brains ticking over on a Sunday afternoon. Hopped into the bongo yesterday to head over to the Forest of Dean for a day out with the family, attempted to open the windows with the drivers side switch (due to no A/C, but that's another issue ) and nothing happened. The wife had no issues opening the passenger side window with the switch on her side. Upon having a play it would appear that it is not the switch that is at fault as I have complete control both up, down and auto of the windows from the drivers side, but only when the door is open. When the door is closed, the switch fails to operate at all. has anyone ever come across this fault before? I'm assuming that there is a crossed wire somewhere when the microswitch is operated as the door closes?

Wire or wires in the drivers door loom broke & only touching/making contact when the door is open.. If you are getting a slight buzz from the drivers switch as well? It will be the black earth wire in the loom...

Thanks for the advice chaps, been out shopping for school shoes with the kids all afternoon, wasn't expecting it to take so long!! It will have to be added to the list and wait until next weekend before I can get a look at it now!! Been away in the states for 5 weeks with work, and bongo was functioning perfectly, get back and now battery keeps going flat overnight, I have no fans at all or "max-chat" fans, no A/C and now intermittent electric windows!! Only been back a week and now I'm away on a course all this week followed by another month away, wonder what else will have gone wrong by then?!!

I have pretty much the same thing going on with mine. Dodgy cable in the door. As for the fans have you checked the fan resistor. Plenty of info on here about them. Replaced mine and all the fans an a/c started working. Although it has gone again so I may have another issue. As for the battery it might just be knackered. Get a fluke and check the voltage. If your not technically minded I'm sure there's plenty of aircraft techies around Brize that could give you a hand.

that door wiring loom is a blooming pain, constantly repairing mine, got a new loom but cant find time to fit the thing

Haha Weeduggy, I am one of those aircraft techies, hence why I'm away so much and hardly have time to put anything of my own right!!! Have you got the digital style a/c or the twisty knobs?!

I should have guessed looking at your name!! I'm one of them aircraft techies also. Play around with those fast pointy things here in fife. I

have the twisty knob kind.1995 model. Resistor was knacked when I got. Guy I got from sent me new one and it's blown after a couple of weeks. Either the ones he gave me are crap or I've got something else wrong.

the usual reason they blow is base of fan collects water around the commutator and bearing

so it gets shitty and stiff and overloads it at low speeds
