Bee sting antenna arial done. DONT DELETE.

Ok my arial has broke for the second time in 3 months so decided to change to a better design.
As it was mentioned on here I took instructions and thanks to Somersetrebel and Misfixit I set about replacing it

Broken aerial

Removed and aboout to saw off stub at mount

Once cut I drilled out the middle to correct size for brass screw

Then a thread was tapped

once the thread was done Its put together(shows tap and die set and differentsize brass bits

Finaly fit back to bongo with the new bearing I perchased

all works and should now not break so easy and more than a third cheaper than a mazda origonal

I didn't have to try too hard to break mine, they seamed to break a bit too easy for my liking.

i know what you mean, the only times i have probs with it, is if i'm a little careless with the hose at a jetwash,luckily ive remembered to check before i yank on the hose (insert double entendre here) its not as if you can fold them out of the way really is it? Even when folded flat they still seem vulnerable...

I took my aeriel stump off and something small dropped to the floor and got lost. Is this the bearing mentioned? If so what size is it and how does it work?

There is a fact sheet on the members area, with detailed photos (which I took when replacing my aerial).

Cheaper solution:

I broke our aerial about a week after getting the Bongo (reversing out of our drive under a tree). I mended the broken aerial by joining the two halves together with a suitable size self tapping screw, which I sawed the head off so it was 'all thread'. Needed some careful squeezing of the broken ends of the aerial tube with pliers to make them round again. Worked perfectly for a year, you could hardly see the join. Cost: about a penny.

I eventually got round to replacing it - but no need to, really

I did a similar thing by cutting the broken stub back to the solid brass part of the aerial. An Escort roof aerial for £2 at the scrappies fits perfectly over the stub and actually cuts a light tread onto the soft brass - job done
