Old Smokey has been diagnosed with a tired turbo. An initial look at whats available brings up a few different part numbers.
Mine has WL01 stamped on along with VJ24 9707 & 299646D
I've seen WL01, WL02, WL04 & WL11, mostly with pretty close VJ numbers to mine which will all apparently will fit a 95/99 Bongo.
Question being, are these all variants of the same thing, perhaps with different power outputs?
Will any similar ones fit straight on or are the mountings/dimensions incompatible?

hmmn interesting thing about the part numbers Chris quick search on ebay and came across this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAZDA-BONGO-B2500 ... 240%3A1318
and this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAZDA-BONGO-FRIEN ... 240%3A1318
looks the same as the bongo tubo but has different part number to yours
Pop up to mine, i will dig my spare turbo out and we can compare between all three if you want

Let me know the outcome of this, because a firm here in Sheffield can supply new and reconditioned turbos if we give them the part numbers.

Re: Turbo part numbers & compatability . . .
well the old one off my scrapped 95 n reg has these numbers........
Turbo Spec..... VJ24 9509
Serial No RHF5.....15677A
Parts No......WL01
The one on my 97 R Has these numbers ...
Turbo Spec..... VJ24 9707
Serial No RHF5.....01519A
Parts No......WL01
so i think that the numbers at the end of the tubo spec are just identification numbers for that year and month of registration/build ect I presume, as the VJ24 9707 are the same as both mine and Chris`s which are both 97 R and the 07 at the end is the month of registration, but on my older turbo it has VJ24 9509 which was a 95 n reg and that was registered in september if i remember rightly.
obviously the number at the end of the serial number is the serial number for that particular turbo.
parts no is the WL01 which is the turbo for the WL engine code
if a few other peeps will go out and take a look and post what year theres is just to be certain.

Re: Turbo part numbers & compatability . . .
Nice new(ish) turbo now back home with a free Home Bargains carrier bag thrown in. Cheers Wayne!
WL01 seems to be the number to look for for a match.
The WL04 is from the B2500 pick up truck. This one has a consiberably smaller manifold, wont fit without major mods.
I'll do some more snooting as to what the others are for or if they are at all appropriate.
Bottom line - as always - don't believe everything thats written on ebay regarding Bongo bits without doing some research 1st.

Re: Turbo part numbers & compatability . . .
Not sure if this helps but.....
My Turbo was also disagnosted as faulty by my local garage (spindle was loose??) - I managed to find a second hand turbo for £99 from http://www.jegc.co.uk ( a lot less than the £300+ I had been quoted for by the suppliers listed at this site).
Once fitted I realised the turbo must have been faulty since I got the Bongo - no more black smoke pouring out the back and engine performance much improved/smoother.

WL11 with a VJ 25**** number is the Ford Ranger unit.
I guess thats a straight bolt on replacement, someone might know otherwise though . . .
