Damp smell after using air-con

Post by Truant » Sun Jul 25, 2010 6:54 pm

Hi All,
I have a bit of a weird problem. Am currently on holiday in the bongo and it has been HOT (i.e. 40 degrees etc). Consequently have been using the air-con which has been great. The only problem is that the following day(and for a few days afterward) there is a really strong damp smell coming from the air vents. I grew up in a hot climate and have had air-con in cars before without this problem. Does anyone know what might be causing it in my Bongo?
Many thanks!

I do normally switch it on at least once a month however, admittedly, it is not usually for more than 5 minutes. Over the past fortnight it has had a bit of a flogging! Is there anything I can clean etc to try and prevent it happening again?

Good chance the evap matrix is clogged with crap that's full of bacteria etc, good idea to remove the ducting under the bonet to get to it to clean it out.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Sorry but I am Not really sure what burnt celery smells like!!

Will check out under the bonnet for this filter. Sorry for my ignorance but could you be a bit more specific on the location I should be looking?
Many thanks!

There isn't a filter , evap matrix is in 6110 here - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html
This factsheet explains how to get to it - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... repair.pdf
Be careful with the fins on the matrix they're fairly fragile.

You've not been the only one with the same issues recently - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=42416
