Help please - wheel noise

Post by psquiddy » Thu Jun 02, 2011 6:58 pm

It sounds like I have a flat tyre until I get to about 30mph, then seems ok - any suggestions? I have jacked up the front wheels and all seems solid and connected, no obvious problems.

Had a similar problem a couple of years ago... dub,dub,dub,dub,dubdubdubdubdubdubdub.... Speed related!

For me it turned out my font off side tyre was like an egg! Pot holes...
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

try swaping the front wheels, one side to the other see if the sound moves with it, then you will know if its the wheel/tyre or not

Make sure your nuts are tight :? and if you have alloy wheels that they are the correct nuts for the wheel, i had my wheels balanced 5 times before the fault of the wrong nuts being found. #-o
Make sure you have spigot rings if you have alloy wheels,(plastic ring that fits on the hub)
Lost without my Bongo.

Could just be unevenly worn tyres especially if it's a 4WD with a viscous coupling that is past its best.

Ours is fine on new tyres but when they're well worn on the inside edge (still loads left in the centre and outside edge) I get odd noises at about 20mph. Every time I put new tyres on it's like a different vehicle.

Oh, and our VC is WELL past its best

Its done about 105000 miles but the problem has come on in the last week (it may have been there before but it is now very noticeable) - we have been in the outer hebrides this week and some of the potholes are awesome so it may have brought matters to a head.

We are now in Ullapool, which seems to be as far away from a tyre shop as is possible to get - it drives ok (ish) but I am thinking I should divert to Inverness (70 miles each way) to get it checked out.

Got it checked out at Ullapool garage, tucked away in Ullapool on Mill Street - they put it straight on the ramps and spent 20 minutes looking it over - nothing to report apart from a bit of normal wear and tear, so I can stop worrying now.

I would recommend these chaps if you are in the area.
