Starter motor repair kit
I see in other posts that many members seem to have had success with the starter motor repair kits but Im wandering how easy the repair is to do? I know how to remove the part having watched the AA man but would appreciate any advice from those who have used the kits.
Re: Starter motor repair kit
Dead easy.
The kits generally come with a photo guide, but it's pretty straightforward.
Once the motor is out, get it on a clean working surface.
The solenoid bit lives in a 'house' shaped housing on one side.
Open the lid, and remove the plunger assembly / spring / etc. Place to one side.
Remove the contacts on either side one at a time, and note the relative positions of all washers / spacers / connections / etc.
Fit new contacts either side as a reverse of the removal, with all the spacers / washers / etc / etc in the same order.
Make sure that the contact faces of the 2 new contacts are as far as possible perfectly flat and level before finally tightening them up.
Fit the new plunger - note the positions of any springs etc on the old one.
Refit the lid, and stick the motor back in the Bongo.

Re: Starter motor repair kit
if you have a winter pack motor (twin starter batts) ive heard the starter is not suitable for this fix, never done the job though, but something to check out first.
Re: Starter motor repair kit
Thank you for the replies, I just have the regular edition motor so think Ill give it a go.
Re: Starter motor repair kit
I have just re-positioned the starter motor after using the Ebay purchased repair kit.
The copper contacts were EXTREMELY eroded from the sparking process with the larger part barely resembling its original shape.
The job took less than an hour and the Bongo started first time-no stutter or falter!
I am thrilled and would recommend the kit & process to any reasonably practical person.
Thanks again for advice & assistance.

Good to hear it went smoothly.
It's quite a satisfying job that one!

Correct, cos its a different starter motor, tho they are interchangable
