Many thanks to Alison01326 for ideas where to go, a bit of local knowledge makes a big difference as this was all uncharted territory for all of us. Thanks also to Allans Vehicle Services who did some emergency brake repairs even though their garage was closed – a top job which kept us mobile

Bank-Holidays on the M5 are legendary, so to avoid getting stuck behind a load of shed-draggers we set off at 11.30pm Maundy Thursday

....to arrive at Salcombe, Devon to a glorious sunrise

From Salcombe the kids wanted to see Hope Cove in Devon

....where Robbie Coltrane famously walked along the harbour wall with a cello-case....

....containing a chainsaw to cut up the wrong yacht in “The Supergrass”

Next up – Allans Vehicle Services in Plymouth to deliver a kitchen unit from Burnley

Then the Torpoint ferry from Devon to Cornwall – free too

There’s nothing like a ferry crossing to give that sense of adventure

Then for another shortcut across the Fowey....

....the scandalously priced Fowey ferry

Fowey

The Lost Gardens of Heligan – one of Mrs Muz’s requests for a visit....

....to see such things as The Giant’s Head....

....plants....

Now that’s what I call a rhododendron

On around the coast to Mevagissey....

....and the first pasties of the tour “Yay!!”

....from Asda “Boo!!”

....and around to Falmouth for an overnight stop.

Oi!! – You!! – What you looking at?

For tea, how about Rick Stein’s fish & chips....

....properly cooked in beef dripping....

....hmmmm, delicioso!!

Overnight in the Church Street carpark – not sure you’re supposed to do that

Day two – turned out nice again

King Henry VIII’s fort at Pendennis castle

Falmouth from Pendennis castle

St Mawes ferry....

....to....

....St Mawes....

St Mawes castle

Oggy Oggy pasties for tea

Time to check in to our main accommodation for the week. We had been there only minutes when the alarm went off on the Bongo. This normally happens when I’ve left one of the windows partially open – so Jr was despatched to check it out. He returned moments later to tell us that someone had backed into the Bongo – and it took him a while to convince us that he wasn’t having a laugh....

“I didn’t see it!!” she sobbed. Should have gone to SpecSavers

Our accommodation

Muppets playing giant draughts....

....room with a view?

....loads of wild garlic

....all over the place....

....and visitors in the rooms looking for food

On around the coast to the Lizard peninsula....

....and Lizard Point, the most southern tip of the mainland.

Might as well check out Anns’ pasties while we’re here

....and see how they’re made

....oh, go on then

Kynance Cove

Is it cold?

St. Michael’s Mount

Over the causeway

Marazion from the castle. Can you spot the Bongo?

Here’s a clue....

....this taken from the same place

Inside the fabulous castle

The chapel

‘AmphiCraft’ for emergencies when the tide is in, like pizza deliveries

Time to go back, and the tide is too far in

....unless you want to get wet

So, the ferry service for us

Ok, let’s check out Roskilly’s farm shop....

....for some proper ice cream

Now that’s what I call rhubarb

Round the coast towards Land’s End – you’ve got to stop here

The spectacular Minack Theatre, an open air stage cut into the rocks

“Romeo, Romeo,”....

....”wherefore art thou, Romeo?”

Land’s End

St. Ives

Aha!! – a pasty shop

Hmmmmm

Riviere Towans, St. Ives Bay

Whatever it is you’ve decided, you’d better do it right now!!

Portreath

Oooh, a bakery!!

Portreath beach

Hell’s Mouth cliffs

Gwithian Towans, St. Ives Bay

Gwithian Towans, St. Ives Bay

Awaiting our cream tea

Oh yes!!

I know you’re supposed to put the jam on top of the cream, but this way you get more on

Porthtowan beach

Porthtowan beach

Restormel castle

Praa Sands beach

A big plastic greenhouse

Porthleven

Porthleven beach

Truro Cathedral

Front discs & pads – should have checked before we left I suppose

Disused tin mine workings scattered all over the place

Well fancy that, a pasty shop

“Can I have some too?”

Marazion beach

Lanyon Quoit....

....possibly a prehistoric bus shelter

Phillack Towans, St. Ives Bay

Tintagel

Tintagel castle

Vegetarian pasties in progress, with peas and freshly slaughtered Quorns

You have to stop at the only place in the land with an exclamation mark in the name

Dunster castle, Somerset

A shotgun secured to the leg of a table – which isn’t fastened to the floor

All that remains is to have a quick blast across Exmoor....

....so that Muzette can see some Exmoor ponies....

....awwww, she’s into the horse thing

....and have a look at the ancient Tarr Steps – possibly dating from 1,000BC. Apparently the Mother-in-Law remembers it being completed

....and it also gives us a chance to ford the river Barle. There were looks of utter incredulity on the faces of those present....

....who couldn’t believe that a nutter would take a fully loaded campervan across there....

Fortunately there hasn’t been much rain lately

I did get a round of applause for providing the afternoon’s entertainment

So there you have it, a top holiday in a place I would happily go back to again
