bubbling noise under bonnet!

Post by fredasurf » Tue Aug 10, 2010 9:35 pm

Please excuse the non-technical nature of this post as i am a girl!!!!
Our Bongo (Freda auto 2.5 tdi 4wd 1995) has a bubbling noise under the bonnet, passenger side. It is leaking water from underneath behind drivers seat. It has a rising temperature. Also when we turned the heating on in the front to cool the engine down it didn;t kick out any heat, just blew cold air. The bubbling noise appears to be the water overheating and boiling up. My OH thinks it's something with the heating in the back? He is sitting in the garden crying as I write this. Please help!

1st thing to do is Stop Driving It. [-X

You have a rather significant problem that will only get more expensive if you continue to do so.

Chances are it could be a head gasket failure but if you've done a few miles like that its probably screwed the head as well.

You need some local help pretty pronto.

(OH is wrong. :( )

Heating system is part of the cooling system, as MM says doesn't sound good. if there's no heat in the heater its airlocked or got no coolant. Find where it's leaking from, get that sorted, then refill it with water, pressure test the cooling/heating system - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=38823. If it's ok then try bleeding it to get the air out, factsheets in the members area & a video on youtube that may help.
If you're not sure, then get it to someone who knows bongo cooling systems, unfortunatley a lot of garages on the recommended list don't, they can do servicing etc, so go with a recommendation if possible & ask if they are confident to work on the bongo cooling system.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

THank you for the advice- From Richard
The heater matrix in the back of the bingo is leaking. I've had to do a bi-pass and miss this out completely. and then using the YOUTUBE video on bleeding the system get rid of the excess air. A 6 am start and 4 hours holding a funnel in the air like a drip and the bongo has pulled through. Temp is level and bongo ready to carry on its adventures.

Thank you for the advice

Check the coolant level in the expansion tank FREQUENTLY for the next few days. (and get into the habit of checking it) could save you a lot of brass and bother, and only takes a few moments to check.
