The Bongo Clinic

If your Bongo is feeling a bit under the weather, then the duty nurse at the Bongo Clinic is here to try and find a remedy.

As you can well imagine, nurse is incredibly busy, so before asking for a diagnosis there are a few things you can do yourself. We strongly advise that you:

a) browse through the questions in the archive to see if your query has arisen before

b) use the search facility to see if it is elsewhere on the site

c) try asking other Bongo owners via the Forum.

d) Have a look on Ozric's Bongoogle website.

If none of that works, then send an email with your problem, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Latest queries are shown below. Or click here for the full clinic archives.

Burning Smell

Q: I own a V6 Bongo. The symptoms are that everything works fine but there is smell of burning. I can smell it after 5 minutes or so and it seems to come and go. I've run the engine with the passenger seat up but I can't see anything or smell it coming from any particular place. Any ideas? (Henry from London)

A: In all likelihood it is leaking oil falling on to your exhaust. It has been reported to us that 10+ year old V6s are prone to a leak on the cam shaft seals. These may need replacing. There is a discussion (with photos) on the Bongo Forum here.

Lighting Relay

Q: Where can I find the relay for the side lights? (Paul from Bristol)

A: It is located next to the headlight relay under the bonnet on the nearside inner wing.

Wheel Arches

Q: A few months ago you were selling new wheel arch panels in the Bongo Shop, but now they have disappeared. Do you know where I can buy them? (Anna from Alton)

A: We did indeed stock them for a while, but the shipping costs proved to be an absolute nightmare, making them very expensive. You can now buy these panels direct from Imperial Car Parts. Their telephone number is 01302 304000. The part numbers are A4481R & A4481L. These are the same panels used on a 2000-06 Ford Transit (LWB) but will provide a snug fit. See here for more info.

The Hadrian Group also stock these types of panels. You can order by phone on 01373-865684. The part numbers are 3053508 & 3053509.

Roof

Q: I know that JAL in Worcester do the mushroom roof which you can put on a low top Bongo. But is there anyone out there who will install a fixed high-top roof on to a low-top Bongo? (Mick from Wigan)

A: We have heard that Keighley (West Yorks) based Drivelodge will do this for you. You can contact them on 01535-637777.
