Mild-mannered
Haydn Rees-Williams, pictured above, is a regular visitor to many
of the Bongo rallies and meetings, and can usually be found fumbling
about in the back of his Bongo as he cooks something extravagant
in his 12 volt microwave oven. But he has written in to express
some words of caution, and we urge all fellow campers to heed his
advice:
I
was in Little Mill, near St David's in Pembrokeshire. It's a wonderful
little woollen mill with a with a grass verge, and some seats and
tables. I stopped for something to eat and parked up, as you do,
and, as I did not want to drain my battery I left the engine running.
I do all my cooking on my 12 Volt Microwave. I loaded my oven with
a frozen beef dinner....mmmm wonderful..... and, thought I would
give the engine an extra few revs. So I went to the open driver's
door and banged my foot down to the boards.
Well
you can probably guess what happened next! I had left the Bongo
in gear with the handbrake off, and Bessybongo was off across the
grass verge! Now, I'm not the fastest of chaps and I'm on the list
for a knee replacement and I also suffer from asthma. So it was
with some difficulty that I managed to catch Bessy some 100 yards
away, with every one laughing and running in different directions.
So
take care when preparing your food! (Haydn & Bessybongo, Tredegar,

if Haydn had not have caught his Bongo)
