Re: cheap glow plugs or other problem ?

Hi
Sorry for not updating the post.
I've been away on holiday for a couple of weeks.
I fitted a set of decent plugs (£50) and so far so good.

They've only been in a few weeks, and I e only done 500 miles or so, but fingers crossed they'll last a bit longer.

Re: cheap glow plugs or other problem ?

Thanks guys for the replies

I've been offered a full refund also.

I'll order a decent set this time.
Any recommendations of brands and where to get them would be most welcome.
I also need the long 102mm type.

I actually have a set of short plugs, but when I started to modify the plug rail, I ...

Re: cheap glow plugs or other problem ?

Hi
Thanks for the replies.

Plugs are long ones and starter battery is pretty new.
Just checked the boxes - branded Ace activ CP-60 - made in Taiwan.

Smoke is grey and smells of unburnt diesel.
The engine has actually never used a drop of coolant in 2 years of ownership.

Revs are low and lumpy for ...

cheap glow plugs or other problem ?

Hi
My 1995 2.5TD Bongo started smoking on a cold start up at the beginning of the year.
I replaced the glow plugs (I think that I paid about £40 for 4 on eBay) and the problem seemed to be fixed.
About 3 months later though, the smoke returned (along with a lumpy idle) for the first few seconds of a ...

Re: Recommended garage around Glasgow or Edinburgh area

Cheers - I found out that they had relocated in Leven as my van keys ended up there :D

I'll drop Bill another email tonight.

Re: Recommended garage around Glasgow or Edinburgh area

Thanks Dave

Unfortunately Bill's not available to do the work on my Bongo.

Does anyone know anyone else who will do a good job of welding and rust prevention work in Scotland ?

My cross members, wheelarches and sills are pretty rotten and need a lot of work :(

Cheers

Recommended garage around Glasgow or Edinburgh area

Hi guys

Bought my 1995 Bongo campervan 3 weeks ago on a well known auction site.
It runs pretty well and the interior has been professionally converted - I'm pretty happy overall.
Underneath however is a lot rustier than expected.
I'm hoping that's it's mostly surface rust, but I'd like to get it ...

Re: Fault with my manual heater control panel

Found the culprit of my problem !
As suspected, my metal leisure battery tray was chafing the fan heater wiring.

Rewired and all working perfectly now :D

Thanks for everybody's help on this matter.

Re: Fault with my manual heater control panel

Thanks Simon

Yes the fan motor spins very easily by hand, so hopefully the bearings are ok.

I checked the drain holes at the weekend and they are clear - it's on my maintenance checks every few months now.

The main suspects now are probably the brushes or the wiring from the plug to the fan motor ...

Re: Fault with my manual heater control panel

Quick update.
I've been outside checking a few more things following the factsheets.
After supplying 12v directly to the fan connector block, nothing happens.
With the ignition on and heater switch on, the supply side of the connector block gets 12v.

It looks like the fan needs new brushes or motor ...

Re: Fault with my manual heater control panel

Hi

Yes I've checked, unplugged and reconnected all the plugs to no avail unfortunately.

I haven't checked the brushes yet, partly because the blower does randomly work sometimes.

Anything else that I could check ?

Thanks

Fault with my manual heater control panel

Hi

My 1995 2WD 2.5TD Bongo camper has a heater control panel that is very temperamental.
It is the old-style slider controls version, not the digital display.
Occasionally it blows at full speed, no matter where the blower dial is pointed, but more often than not, the blower does not work at all ...
