Re: Engine and coolant hot, fans ignoring it
The fans come on very last minute, i.e. at a buttock clenching high temperature. I tested mine by removing the plug from the two wire temp sensor and inserting a variable resistor to pick up the trigger point for the fans coming on. These were my results - please treat as approx. Open circuit: Both ...

Re: Actuator on top of turbo - 2.5TD
Lots of info in these earlier posts discussing this part of the turbo (Wastegate and its actuator). https://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=71239&hilit=wastegate&start=30 https://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=72342&p=679593&hilit=turbo#p67959...

Re: Actuator on top of turbo - 2.5TD
It’s driven by positive pressure in the output of the turbo and reduces the effect of the turbo when the output pressure is too high. I’ll see if I can dig out an old post with a vid of testing it.

Re: AFT Motor housing screws
To complete the post for future reference.
The screws are M5 pan head, 8mm long. 10mm length will work for the open ended hole but too long for the blind hole.

Re: Safe heating for a Bongo when wild camping Is it Possible?
Fits fine under front psssenger seat. It’s a snug fit and gives a tight but doeable run for the hot air output into the well by the sliding door and the air intake facing the front passenger door. It’s also a good position for the combustion air intake and exhaust being in the engine bay and sealed ...

Re: AFT Motor housing screws
Can't help with the screw size but I use a small Makita cordless impact on tight Phillips (I'm assuming Philips rather than a bolt) heads now and I haven't stripped one since. .... Thanks for the tip. Will look at that as a little investment. I shifted 3 out of 4 using a combination of time, penetr...

Re: Safe heating for a Bongo when wild camping Is it Possible?
I've camped in the Himalayas and have the down sleeping bag comfy way below freezing, just too hot if it is any warmer! I agree that once snuggled in a good sleeping bag the cold does not matter. Here is the BUT. I, well the missus even more so, enjoy the van being warm for the evening, listening to...

AFT Motor housing screws
Does anybody, on the off chance, know the screw size that holds the two halves of the AFT roof motor housing together? I have a reluctant roof and after checking out so many things decided to "service" the motors using the Rob Feakins' fact sheet on BF. Stripped and reassembled one motor b...

Also these guys, https://www.bongospares.co.uk/
But I can see them insisting on you taking a whole cluster assembly.
There are several variations with the lense colours so be ready with a photo.

if it has good well known mechanicals and you get it for nowt, spend £2k on welding / arches. If it gives two years service it's just about fine, anything longer is payback.

Nice and to be fair later technology makes a big difference. Got a friend who defected to the dark side from a Bongo. One weekend camp, we are hanging around at campsite, Bongos parked up waiting for the defector when a call comes through. "I might be a bit late. Broken down. Waiting for AA in ...
