Re: Copper sump washer not in place for forthcoming year....

Probably good practice but I bet 99pct of people don't. Seems excessive to me.

No drips so far after checking after each drive I will keep an eye on it but I appear to be ok thus far.

I'll get it back on next year... it's having a well earned year off.

Re: Copper sump washer not in place for forthcoming year....

It can happen when the bolt is removed and does not remain on the thread of the bolt (which 9/10 times it does or is even like it is welded to the bolt head) and as it is not something I think of very much if it has "welded" itself to the sumps bolt hole facia it then warms and falls off i...

Copper sump washer not in place for forthcoming year....

When I poured old oil into funnel into old conatainers I saw something come out and get stuck in the neck... The copper sealing ring for the sump nut Nooooooooooooo ! And I already put the sump nut and new oil in, I did not recall there was one I suppose at they often come off together not t...

Re: First non start for a long while...

Yes all done now, pleased with that. I put all my nuts and bolts into a food container so they don;t get lost, that is now
designated the nuts and bolts container for the Bongo. Thanks again.

Re: First non start for a long while...

All re-assembled, take a photo, it is slightly fiddly, one side has some kind of wafer insulator and the other plastic piece and both sides have rubber grommets, double chek what is inside and outside the enclosure, you cannot go wrong with taking a photo and doing each side one at a time. Put it ba...

Re: First non start for a long while...

The outer nut is stuck and instead the inner nut moves so I am currently shafted as I do not have a slim enough spannerto hold the estimated to be 14mm nut behind. So I need to get a very slim set of spanners to hald that rear nut to crack the corroded top nut. Classis DIY problem ! Off to Ama...

Re: First non start for a long while...

No worries Bob the more info there is the better for all. Now I have hit a slight problem, one contact is replaced, the one I suspect was worst worn, that 3mm contact was about 0.8mm left ! The other sides nut (it's a nut with a tag for a thick wire coming from the body) is quite corroded and the fi...

Re: First non start for a long while...

Starter motor is out. Quite smooth job upper bolt is most tricky as you have limited swing for the ratchet. Start with a 1/2 inch ratchet if you have it, I thought using the most robust first would be best to crack the seal. Once the seal on the bolts was cracked I used the small 3/8 to wind them ou...

Re: First non start for a long while...

Air intake off, banged the bolts with a bar in lieu of hammer not fitting to try and crack the bolt seals and a final WD40 for good measure. Confidence grows slightly with each stage and you can start to see what you are doing now ! Top tip a powerful Headtorch is very handy indeed on for charge for...

Re: First non start for a long while...

Chair is out easier than imagined, first time I have taken it out. I was concerned about the slider bar but need not have been. I suspected there was a 6th bolt in a hard to acces place but it just comes out with the entire chair structure. I used paracord to hold the engine bay cover up as it will ...

Re: First non start for a long while...

I bought 1/2 inch Draper and 3/8inch Draper with some sockets £11 and £19 respectively. I think the 1/4 inch looks too small. I won't know until I get in there. I will report on what works best for other people who may have future starter troubles. Well at least I am not all sorted for ratchets into...
