Re: Engine Rebuild - recommended engineers?

@Katka - thanks, but I've tried that direction. The engine rebuilder normally works with a local garage who will remove/reinstall the engine. This relationship needs to be excellent. If there are problems then they blame each other. For that reason it's necessary to go with a confident garage. I'm d...

Re: Engine Rebuild - recommended engineers?

...some time later... I got a second opinion from a Bongo specialist, and they confirmed that the engine needs to be rebuilt/replaced. In fact, at the time they suggested a reasonable alternative would be to sell (for someone else to have the pleasure) and buy a replacement, but a) the price of of b...

Re: Engine Rebuild - recommended engineers?

That's reassuring :) Presumably fixing those issues would be a lot less expensive. I'll get that second opinion. Fingers crossed. Thanks!

Thanks for the insights Bob. I'll give Lakeside a call tomorrow and then see if they can take a look.

Re: Engine Rebuild - recommended engineers?

Oil level decreasing - yes, but also there's an oil leak at the front which the garage said isn't worth fixing right now if I'm having an engine rebuild anyway Smoke at all times from exhaust - yes Smell of oil in exhaust - yes Cam seals - interesting that you say there's a distinctive smell - I've ...

Re: Engine Rebuild - recommended engineers?

Well, I wouldn't know. How could I tell?
I'm in Guildford. I'm not sure there are specialist garages around here for Bongo work.

Re: Rear seat not sliding smoothly (converted seats)

After some investigation I think that the sliders are actually not quite parallel. They will move, so it's not the end of the world.

Re: Uprated Suspension Springs

Thanks for the regular updates Gasy! I fitted the same last year and can honestly say they have been fantastic. I also used to bottom out all the time, but now it's just not a worry. Handles very well.

Engine Rebuild - recommended engineers?

Hi all I've got a 2001 petrol 2.5 V6 141,000km. My local garage has told me it's burning a lot of oil, and needs an engine rebuild. He doesn't have the space or equipment, but told me to be careful to find a reputable firm. Can anyone recommend a firm, and confirm the likely price? Gareth at my gara...

Re: Rear seat not sliding smoothly (converted seats)

Thanks Bob & Flanners, I'll give WD40 a go initially, and then try contacting the people who made the conversion. I'll report back :)

Rear seat not sliding smoothly (converted seats)

Hi all I've got a 2001 (new look) Bongo with Mistral full side conversion. The rear seats were cut down to 2 passengers each. Looks like that was done with a big saw and some welding - clever stuff. The middle seat glides back and forth beautifully, but the back seat is hard work. It doesn't grind o...

Re: Uprated Suspension Springs

I'd love to know how this turned out Gasy!

I've got a full conversion, and the bongo bottoms out on bigger bumps even without the camping gear, so I'm definitely keen to hear how you got on.

Re: Stereo connectors not PC2-10-4, not PC2-78-4 for ISO?

OK, going back further to the loom, it appears to be a PC2-78-4 after all. It was partially shrink wrapped, so wasn't obviously a connector. So, now to choose a new stereo. Thanks for you help Geoff!

Re: Stereo connectors not PC2-10-4, not PC2-78-4 for ISO?

Hi Geoff - Yes, it looks like there are original Japanese labels on the wires just before the connectors. I'll take another look later as one side had a couple of additional bits on - I'll take another picture. Cheers, Calum

Stereo connectors not PC2-10-4, not PC2-78-4 for ISO?

Hi all, I hope you can help here. I've had a read through a number of posts and the FAQs, but can't find an answer. My 2001 Y reg Bongo 2.5LV6 petrol has the an Eclipse double DIN unit installed which I want to replace. However, when checking the connectors on the back, it appears that neither the P...
