Finally got to the bottom of my heaters not blowing hot air.
Well actually Mike at wheel quick nr Wigan has!
The heaters were luke warm at best and only cold to the rear cabin, also back pressure in the system seemingly trying to force coolent out of most hoses joints.
Decided to nurse the van ...

Sniff test..
Hi all,
Any special routine a garage should follow when doing a sniff test for the cylinder head?
From cold or up to temp after the stat has opened?
Reason been my 2.5td has had a new radiator fitted by its previous owner and the engine bay (under bonnet ) shows pasr evidence of a coolent blow ...

Re: Low coolent alarm activated....
Hi thanks for the reply!
I'm sorry but I can't check the radiator until tomorrow as the van is at the garage.
Unfortunately I am usually a couple of hours from anyone useful! I'm in Barrow in furness.
I will take a look at the rad and report back.
Cheers,
Dave.

Low coolent alarm activated....
Hi guys,
Parked my 2.5 td m reg bongo half on a high kerb half off and when I came back to the van the coolent alarm was on. Pulled the bongo off the kerb and it stopped, assumed it's was just the angle.
Half hours drive no issues, the following day had a run up to the lakes, probably half hour ...

Hi Rita,
Not sure on either count but will give them a ring tomorrow.
What is the prv bypass valve and is it known to cause problems?
Cheers

Re: Power steering.....
Flushed and new fluid today,
No sign of any leaks but unfortunately no improvement.
Looking like a new pumps on the cards.
They did find however that the steering rack wasn't tightened up properly and the steering jumped when they were test driving.
So now sits with a quarter turn offset on ...

Little update...
Vans in the garage tomorrow, but on the way down noticed that if I go into neutral and rev the engine the steering frees up and can be turned, revs drop and steering heavy again.

Re: Power steering.....
Whereabouts roughly are you. Is the garage a Bingo specialist?
South cumbria,
I'm thinking the more info I can give the better!
Just checked for the fluid moving and it does seem to go up and down a couple of millimetres when turning the wheel.
I've sprayed chain lube on the uj's as well ...

Re: Power steering.....
Thanks!
I haven't checked either of those things,
2.5 td so definitely runs through a belt?
Should the fluid be moving when you move the wheel or is this bad?
No noise when when the steering stiffens up so I guess that's a good thing?
Thanks again

Power steering.....
Power steering works for roughly 10 - 15 mins then cuts out at slow speeds after that, around 10 mph or less there's no assistance whatsoever.
Speed picks up and all seems OK again.
I've tried plenty of wd40 on both universal joints which doesn't seem to have improved things.
Can't see any ...

Try not to be too downhearted,
I've done welding on cars for years and have just been caught out myself.so your not the only one!
My mot is only 2 months old and is laughable, I'm doing the welding mine needs myself which is lucky.
Make a list of the most important things safety wise, maybe ...
