Undersealing around Manchester
Hi guys, Can anyone recommend anywhere who does rustproofing and undersealing including cavities, etc around Manchester or the wider NW area? Mine had been done at some time before it came into my ownership (which was June last year) but it is overdue being done again. There is some surface rust to ...

Re: Rims
I had the same issue and predicament last year after I bought mine. I ended up buying a full size wheel and tyre from Bongo Spares for £40 and painted black Hammerite on the rim before fitting it underneath.

Re: Overheat query
No I didn’t replace the pressure cap. It still seems ok but only time will tell!! And, if I am honest, I didn’t think to either!
The temperature gauge rises up to normal air quickly and pretty much stays there with no overpressure issues so I think the cap should be OK.....

Re: Overheat query
Thought I would update this as a point of reference for future searches, etc. My presumptions below were incorrect. The reason the scavenger fan cuts in was because the engine bay thermistor was unplugged. Removing the thermistor from the centre panel and plugging it in to the loom meant the scaveng...

Re: Manual Gearbox Query
You will not see anything faulty if you look inside the bell housing if the clutch pressure plate is weak. I am afraid it will be a case of fitting a new clutch and trying it, so this may be the last thing to try because of the cost.

Re: Manual Gearbox Query
And of the gearbox oil loss was a one-off due to perhaps not being filled to the maximum level after the gearbox was last removed then I would be looking at an inferior clutch pressure plate.
I have had a similar issue with a Ford Connect and the only way to rectify was to get a genuine Ford part.

Re: Overheat query
I have been out and started the van up with the thermistor plugged in again, and when the engine was running I unplugged the temperature sender unit which brought the radiator fans on full speed. So, from this I am going to conclude that: 1 - the radiator fans for the cooling system are fine 2 - the...

Re: Overheat query
I’ve seen that GIF before which is really good! If it had the scavenger fan operation on it to then it would be even better (easy for me to say )

Re: Overheat query
Thanks Geoff.
I think I need to investigate further why the radiator fans do not come on then. I know they work and the relays are OK because they come in when the A/C is engaged, so if the head-mounted fan switch is working fine then it’s pointing to a wiring issue.

Re: Overheat query
Thanks Geoff. So I am presuming that what I experienced is normal: 1 - Thermistor unplugged, engine running, coolant cold, scavenger fan not running 2 - thermistor unplugged, engine running, coolant up to normal operating temperature (top and bottom hoses hot), scavenger fan not running 3 - thermist...

Re: Overheat query
Thanks Geoff. I thought that was the case with the scavenger fan, but I had the centre panel off and over to the back seats so the thermistor you mentioned was unplugged (along with the other connections on the panel) which leads me to think there’s a second use for the fan (I.e. if the radiator coo...

Re: Overheat query
A bit more advice if I can please....! I have finally got around to bleeding the coolant system (combination of full-time work, University study, kids, half term holidays...!). The coolant definitely needs replacing but that will be last job after I have found and rectified the leak. I am 100% sure ...

Re: Overheat query
Thanks Haydn, will do. I take it that this is to flush the rear heater matrix? Or do you mean flush back from the rear heater matrix to the radiator? I was also considering putting some coolant system flush in after I have found and rectified the leak. Anyone had any horror stories with doing this? ...

Re: Overheat query
Will do, thanks Bob. Just spent an hour on it giving it a good look over. I can’t see any obvious signs of a leak but it definitely has air in the system. I reckon the next step is going to be to drain the system, remove and backflush the radiator and the engine (the coolant is really brown rusty co...
