Re: Overheating but okay on pressure and sniff test?

thanks for suggestions. Van is at ADS in Bristol now - they confirmed a cracked head and proceeded with fitting a new one. However they just rang me to tell me it hasn't solved the issue so they recommend an engine replacement for the tidy sum of £4500. Debating now whether to scrap the thing (I dou...

Re: Overheating but okay on pressure and sniff test?

Hi. Garage got back to me, said they changed thermostat (just incase), flushed radiator, bled the system and it idled okay but after 20 minutes the temperature gauge started to rise above 11 oclock so problem still persisting. They also noted that there was a lot of pressure building in the system c...

Re: Overheating but okay on pressure and sniff test?

Thanks for replies. Tested thermostat in water and opened at 82 degrees as normal, when I reinstalled it I found a small pebble blocking one of the pipes in the thermostat housing. Not sure how on earth it got there or if it may have been the source of the issues. Refilled and bled system but a lot ...

Overheating but okay on pressure and sniff test?

Hi all, The Bongo ('95 2.5 diesel - 122000 miles) overheated the other day idling in traffic - bubbling over from expansion tank. Pulled over and bottom radiator hose was cold...fan didn't turn on...Front heater was blowing hot air. Only has the 'standard 11 o'clock' temp gauge. Had a bit of coolant...

Re: Manual Gearbox - Oil Change

Any chance you have the hex size for the transmission drain plug? just checked and it looked like 23mm maybe? It looks like the same size as the bolt for the differential filler plug, just tried with an adjustable but no chance....

cheers

Re: Starting issues...Glow plug relay?

Report from mechanic/auto electrician after 2 weeks at the garage: confirmed no power from ECU to relay - suspect a dodgy ECU. Wired in a manual relay switch to bypass ECU. This worked but the mechanics were uneasy about this as a final solution, since a dodgy ECU engine module may also be causing u...

Re: Starting issues...Glow plug relay?

I couldn't find anything visually wrong with the connection from the ECU to the GPR, but its an absolute snakes wedding of wires behind the glove box so who knows if I missed anything. Booking the Bongo into an auto electrician that knows Bongos for tomorrow, so I'll report on what they find. I've b...

Re: Bongo Friendly Garages in and around Southampton?

Just an update for those interested in Bongo garages in Southampton area. The main Bongo mechanic from Master Tech Autos left at Christmas 2021, so they're not really taking on Bongo work there anymore. They recommended Derek Osgood Motorcare in Winchester. Given him a call and booked in for next we...

Re: Starting issues...Glow plug relay?

Thanks both for replies, I had another look at the relay and seems fine to me, I plugged it back in with the cover off to see if I could see the contacts 'click' when the ignition was turned on, and I couldn't see the magnet activate (the click I heard must have been some other relay under the hood)...

Starting issues...Glow plug relay?

Hey Bongo community. First post on here after months of reading other topics and solving my issues that way - love this forum, its a great resource. We bought a '95 diesel 2.5 TDI a few months back and after starting without any issues at all since then, this morning it hasn't been able to start. It...
