Replacement Engine
After the issue of the coolant cap coming off mid-drive and causing the engine to massively overheat, i've been quoted £3500 to fit a new engine in my Bongo (Ford Freda). Is that high? It's ADS, who are Bongo specialists in Bristol. I've never had an issue with them before, they're very good. He sai...

Re: Head Gasket? Gutted
It's bad.
Failed the compression tests with all sorts. It massively overheated.
Brand new engine, looking at over 3 grand.
Told them to take a look at the rust situation underneath and let me know. If the rust is in a crap condition, we'll have to let her go.

Re: Head Gasket? Gutted
She's in with ADS bongo specialists now. They reckon it could be anything, could be a whole new engine, or new cylinders. They're going to pressure test and let me know.

Re: Head Gasket? Gutted
It's a V6 petrol. They're going to tow it to my nearest bongo specialist and I'll park it out there overnight until tomorrow when hopefully they can look at it.
I'm just praying it's not insane money to fix.

Re: Head Gasket? Gutted
RAC report says 'found with engine running water is coming out of expansion tank, likely head gasket issue'.

Head Gasket? Gutted
Driving on the M5, engine slows down. Pull over and smoke pours out the coolant tank - I've either left the cap off or it came off. RAC come along, he says he'll bleed it for me and check. He pours water in the engine somewhere (I'm a novice) and starts the engine, and the water comes out where the ...

Blind....Rods?
The main electric blind (covers the sliding door window) has broken as the rod in the blind has snapped on both sides, so when you press the button, the remaining bits at the side go up.... but the blind doesn't. Looking online trying to find this part but it seems impossible - am I best trying to g...

Re: Jap Perforomance Imports - Bristol
So it seems we've got lucky with this! Bought our bongo a few weeks back privately from a young guy. When I looked through the paperwork, he's bought it from this place - paid £11600 only 18 months ago, we bought it for 6k. Should note that the guy before us had very few problems himself with it. Lu...

Re: Cambelt Replacement
Thanks - I think it'll be one of those things we just bite the bullet and get done, at least it will see us through the ownership (hopefully).

Cambelt Replacement
We have no idea when it was last replaced so it's next on the list to replace. I went to ADS auto today (Bongo specialist in Bristol) and they told me it's £685 for 7 hours work, because they recommend changing the crankshaft and camshaft seals at the same time, otherwise if they go, i'd have to get...

We Just Bought A Bongo!
I have a few small questions if you don't mind. 1. Is there a recommended coolant? I've noticed it's quite low and we're heading off for a little trip this weekend. Do I have to make sure its the same coolant that's already in there? 2. It was sold with a faulty fridge (fridge doesn't turn on). It's...

The worry of getting a rust bucket is proving too strong.
The van we were going to look at last week was sold in the end, so we missed out, but we were panicking the whole time about a potential rust situation. We're due to visit one tomorrow, and we're just constantly panicking about rust. From photos, the exterior looks absolutely fine - 2012 import, 92,...

Doesn't give me a lot of info but he's sent me a photo of the under side. Definitely going to have to go and check it out in person.

Re: Could I have some advice please?
Thanks! Out of interest, how much did it set you back roughly to repair those bits?

Re: Could I have some advice please?
Ah to clarify (sorry for being unclear) I will be going to inspect it myself and won't be making a snap decision! Good call though on the arches, i'll ask for that information. Just looking now, when it failed in 2017 with corrosion issues, it failed on the 15th and was retested successfully on the ...
