check the rubber fuel return pipe behind the intake manifold, had to replace mine last week seemed to help a bit. put your hand under the fuel pump and check for fuel also seals might need doing. pump timing could be out also.

thats incredibly expensive for an engine swap in a bongo, they are a doddle to swap over, an afternoons work with competent people and a good used engine on ebay wont cost you more than 1k usually with a free gearbox bolted on. If you have removed the front prop shaft then it can't be the viscous coupling as it won't be driving anything.
