I'm guessing it must be a fault internally to the alternator. The wires coming out of the alternator go straight into conduit, so the wire is unlikely to be shorting against the body. The fuel gauge appears not to working either but probably not connected.

Thanks,I'll look at the alternator again although I definitely didn't see any loose wires or connectors, unless it's a fault internally to the alternator, in which case, I don't have the expertise to diagnose. It's certainly charging well and regulating the charge voltage as well, it didn't deviate ...

I wasn't aware but I know it was running fine until it dropped it's coolant out of the pipe. I've only driven it myself once but been a passenger in it a few times and it is horrifically slow, but it's a heavy vehicle, develops very little power for a 2.0 and has a pretty lazy autobox so I wouldn't ...
