Re: Advice on rear arches

See this: https://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=76068 We went for a fibreglass repair with a view to get another couple of years, as it turned out we got five. But we then had a proper welding job done which should last for years to come. Our reluctance to do this initially was...

Re: How Many Hook Ups Are Left?

Mike, I don't think you can arrive before noon on the Wednesday. Ah! All these years I've laboured under the illusion us pensioners could loll about there all week. #-o  Bob (and Muz) - are you getting down there for Wednesday? I'm toying with getting New Dawn to fit a reversible seat whilst t...

Re: Off to Scotland

The wee-beasties are the enemy of every living thing. A lot of people don’t like DEET but this stuff takes some beating: https://www.lifesystems.co.uk/products/insect-repellents/expedition-100-plus-spray?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1b-gsLvW4QIVTlXTCh2XZgljEAQYAyABEgI3R_D_BwE Muz Jr resorted to a more traditio...

Re: Off to Scotland

On wild-camping, they're getting a little more fussy and islands like Barra have now pretty much stopped it. But generally the further north you go the easier it will be to find somewhere to pitch up for the night. The beauty of wild-camping is that you can wake up to views you wouldn't get on a cam...

Re: Off to Scotland

It depends a lot on how long you’re going for, how far into Scotland you plan to go, what kind of things you like to see & do and whether you’re planning to use campsites or wild-camp. If you’re only going up as far as Glasgow & Edinburgh there’s lots on the west coast up through Ayrshire an...

We’re not from Caledonia but we’ve been nicknamed the McMuzzes – have a look through some of these and ask away for any guidance on how to get to some of the more obscure places  In my opinion, the two tours of the Hebrides were the best we’ve ever done. Outer Hebrides Kingdom of Fife...

Re: Newbie from Ireland

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the van. Have a look at this thread on bodywork, ours was rotten after a few years and we thought it would be scrap, but Bongo Spares did a pukka job on it. To do the arches properly (welded, not with filler), the inside needs to be stripped out otherwise you’...

Reminds me of that small island we learned about in school geography. And not from the teacher. Thanks to your warped mind Ben (which got my warped mind working), I've just spent a happy few minutes chuckling at interesting place names: https://matadornetwork-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/matado...

Glad it works well for you. We bought that bike rack in 2010 and it has served us well in that time carrying two or three bikes all over Europe. This at the top of Scotland in 2010, at Trigh Allt Chilgeag between Cape Wrath and John o'Groats: http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i188/Muzorewa/ScotlandT...

Re: Brought a Bongo.... few questions!

Well on THIS tour which has some similarities with yours, pre-trip maintenance (bearing in mind it's a 20-year-old bus) included: Water pump Radiator Thermostat Fan switch (the one in the head that controls the fans) Some key hoses For spares we took: Rear prop (our viscous coupling was pla...
