Tips for losening caliper mount bolts
Hi, Our Freda has decided to make a metal on metal squeal when braking in a left turn and seems to be coming from the front offside wheel. The brake pads were new in Sept. last year, and look to have loads left on them, so my next thought was to take the caliper off, and see if anything is out of al...

Re: Casualty of wind
...Interesting, my wife would love it if I added another gadget to our Freda
We picked it up from the panel repair guy the other day, and he has managed to bend the hinges back into alignment. Apart from some stress marks in the paint on the door, its almost as good as new

Re: Basic MPG stats ?
We went to sunny Scotland for our hols, and with a normal dose of millers and an average speed of 65mph we got 30mpg from our 1997 4wd diesel. When I use it for work, the best I get is 27-28. The way our Freeda eats the miles, the drinking of the diesel is smallfry

Re: Casualty of wind
Many thanks for the replies, the doors are a little like sails... The van went in to the shop today to have the rear wheel arches done, and the guy said if he had time, he would look at the door as well. If not, I happen to have some ply left over from other van projects

Casualty of wind
Hi all, We were enjoying the "sunny" climes of the Isle of Skye and during small gale, the passenger door was forced open #-o . When closing the door, it looks like something has bent at the front end because it is being pulled into the opening a lot more than at the catch end, so much so,...

Re: Diesel no longer liking cold starts...
I found the connector, should have checked that before replacing the sensor. After reseating it, the cold starts are fine, and the engine fans don't spin up prematurely. So the old sensor lives to see another day. I am still hear the glow plug relay going into spasm when the engine is warming up, bu...

Re: My full DIY conversion
I know I have only just posted, but hunting around other topics, I can't find any info about the "Official" do's and don'ts about the seat belts. Does anyone know what insurance companies think about diy re-located seatbelts, and will it affect MOT (road legal)?

Re: Diesel no longer liking cold starts...
Thanks for the battery tip. I tried the voltage drop test, and when cranking, the battery dropped to just under 10v, so I assume its o.k. The only other things I have noticed are that when I am going to have the cold start problem, the glow plug light on the dash stays on longer than normal, sometim...

Re: Diesel no longer liking cold starts...
The a/c is off, and I don't know how old the plugs are. They haven't been changed in the year we've had her :) I will keep my multi meter handy so I can test when it next has problems. I believe there is power getting to the plugs, because when I turn the ignition on, and the fans don't spin up, the...

Diesel no longer liking cold starts...
Hi all, I have a '95 Diesel which has been running fine all winter. Recently I have been noticing that the glow plug relay going nuts as the engine reaches running temperature (on, off, on, off etc) when idling. So I added it to my to do list, and moved on... Now when trying to start it up, a...

Re: Cutting rear bench seat down for side conversion
Thanks Dave. It was following the link in your sig in another post which planted the idea for me. It looks like you have some welding skills... I may have to rethink the bed, soldering is my limit

Cutting rear bench seat down for side conversion
Hi, I'm still a bit of a novice DIYer but have made a few modifications to our Montague rear conversion. In the distant future I would like to DIY a side conversion, but my only sticking point is the bed situation, we need seatbelts. I am playing with the idea of an RnR bed, or modifying our existin...

Re: drive shaft seal
Hi all, I spotted some oil in one of my rear wheels, and with a bit of poking around found it is axle oil. While I was looking, I cleaned up the wheel and back of the disc vent, and after a few hours, there are no more drips. Searching the forum I found this thread, checked my breather, and it is so...
