Re: A question about alternators

Just thought I'd post an update. The old alternator had actually failed mechanically. This is interesting as this happened to the last one - about 15 months ago. I had also asked the mechanic to diagnose a sort of 'rubbing sound' and it turned out it was the alternator. My mechanic is scratching his...

Re: A question about alternators

Interesting stuff - I'm going to check the studs on the manifold and also ensure that the garage knows about the 90amp requirement for the alternator. Had to drive the Bongo home from work last night - by the time I got home the lights were very dim and the speedo and rev counter had stopped working...

Re: A question about alternators

Cheers for the replies. It's booked into the garage in a week's time. I will ask if they can look at replacing the earths and check the loading. The garage owner will get it replaced under warranty if it is still in. Half thinking about trading up as the last few garage bills have been large. Not su...

A question about alternators

I've got the battery/Sediment lights lit on the dashboard, indicating that the alternator is malfunctioning. If this is the case, this will be the fourth(!) alternator to have failed in as many years. Hopefully the alternator may be replaced under warranty (if indeed it is still in warranty) but I a...

The speedo does read slightly over but no more than most cars.

Re: Autobox gear changes

I think I'm going to have a look at the TPS today, check the voltages, and do some very gentle fiddling!

Re: Autobox gear changes

The gearbox oil has been changed (when I first got it and the filter was removed and cleaned). I'd just like to know if the TPS is operating correctly as something else to rule out.

Re: Loose driver's side mirror glass

That makes sense - I'll have to see if I can remove it but I have a feeling that, as you say, one of the clips is broken.

Re: Autobox gear changes

Hmmm. I'm not sure I'm seeing a gear change around 30mph. I seem to go from 20 up to 40ish. As Muzorewa suggests, I could really do with driving another one for comparison. I also wonder if the TPS is adjusted correctly but don't want to really start random fiddling (I don't want to break it). I kno...

Loose driver's side mirror glass

Hi Folks,

The glass in my driver's side mirror is slightly loose - it seems to be diconnected somewhere towards the bottom of the glass. It all works ok but 'shivers' annoyingly when driving.

Is there a straightforward way to remove the glass to see what the problems is?

Thanks.

Re: My Bongo's got tinnitus, and other issues.

As regards the whirr/ tone. It only does it when the van is traveling , never whilst stationary. It might be worth checking that the speedo trip meter has not Jammed, try resetting it. Cheers. That happened to me - and it took me ages to find where the ticking was coming from - I was convinced it wa...

Autobox gear changes

Hi Folks, Can someone tell me roughly, when the gear changes should happen on the 2.5D auto box? Mine seems to change a couple of times up to about 15 miles an hour and then not change again until about 40 (about 45 if your pushing it up a hill) also, the lockup seems to waver around 60mph - if you'...

Re: Bongo creaking like a spanish galleon!

One of the rear anti-roll bar brackets was indeed broken. Both sides now replaced. Font drop-links also need doing but Campercraft in Kirkcaldy didn't have any in when the Bongo was in (for a new alternator) so they'll have to wait.

Re: Battery and sediment light on - alternator failed?

Thanks to Bill at Campercraft for another good job. Alternator replaced and Bongo serviced. It turned out one of the rear anti-rollbar brackets had broken and they ended up having to cut off both mounting plates and weld replacements.

Was looking very jealously at the 04 plate Bongo he's just sold...

Re: Battery and sediment light on - alternator failed?

Booked to go into Campercraft tomorrow morning - Bill has an alternator. Battery on charge right now so hopefully I can get there before the battery runs out! #-o
