Re: gearbox issue

Hi Folks, Haven't been here for a while, so hopefully everyone is happily Bongoing! Ours has been fantastic and well maintained, but it still surprises when it gets through the MOT. Anyway...the only major issue "our Billy" has at the moment is a random surging in the gearbox. I can be ha...

Re: door electrics

Sounds like a lot of hard work! Good luck. I am a great fan of heat shrink solder but connectors, since I discovered them a couple of years ago. Just bare and clean a few millimeters of each of the broken ends, push together inside the connector and heat gently and evenly with eg a disposable lighte...

Re: Steering problem

Hi folks, I wonder if you can provide a bit of advice - the other day I noticed that my steering doesn't seem to be smooth. When turning the wheel a significant amount, for example a 90 degree turn, the stiffness experienced whilst turning the wheel changes - i.e. the effort required to turn varies...

Re: Driver's door window switch

Afternoon. My driver's door window switch stopped working. I bought a second-hand one but when I fitted it, that didn't work either. I bought a second switch, fitted that, but that doesn't work either. I asked my garage to test it and they said there was nothing wrong with the circuit. But I cannot...

Re: Leisure Battery Problems

A bit more information required. If everything was OK until recently it may be that the split charge relay has failed and needs to be replaced. Without knowing your set up it is difficult to say more. :?:

Re: Coolant Alarm Driving Me Nuts

Done that. Recurs in about two days. Easier to just back out the screw a few turns and tighten up again. Now that I know it will go away eventually I am not so concerned :)

An explanation is fine and thank you for it.

Re: Coolant Alarm Driving Me Nuts

If you have recently put new red coolant in you can expect the alarm to "play up"for around a month. The coolant will coat the screw until that property within the coolant is exhausted. I wish I had known that before. The alarm is great but ignoring the bleep has started to get on my nerv...

Re: Indicators

Frank, I nearly wrote the same reply earlier i.e. instrument panel bulb blown will change the resistance of the circuit and hence the speed of flash. Then re-read it and noted that the bulb was working but also flashing fast (as it would do). My money would be on a dodgy earth or a bulb on its way ...

Re: Power Steering Sticking?

"I have checked the levels on fluids and all okay."

In addition to all the advice already offered it might be worth changing the fluid in the power steering system. This is the same stuff as used in automatic transmissions and should be a clear red colour. If it looks dirty, change it.

Re: Passenger side mirror won't adjust horizontally

I hope someone can point me in the right direction here. The mirror will move up/down but not left/right. Is there an easy fix or is it a mirror off and strip down job. I had a look at the wiring between the door and the frame and it looks OK although I didn't think it could be that as everyhting e...

No. Faulty wiring ruined a perfectly good gearbox which had to be replaced due to mechanical failure. Then the fault was found.

Judder, judder stall: the Final Solution?

I posted about this some time ago: http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=52712 Unfortunately the problem recurred with a vengeance a couple of months ago. By this time time I had pursued all leads offered including replacing coolant temperature sensors. It got to the point where...

Re: Where can I get a gas bottle and regulator?

Thanks everyone, lots of help and some great tips. We did manage to get the smaller butane cylinder, regulator and jubilee clip from MG Caravans in Todmorden. We expect some pretty low temperatures as we're going to be touring Northern Scotland for some months through winter, so I might try the Pro...

Re: what oil?

what type of oil should i be using? i've got loads of 5/40 left over from my last car which drunk the stuff - can i use this in bongo or do i need a thicker one? This will be fine for your Bongo. 5w30 is the OEM spec but unless you live somewhere really cold it will not be a problem. Just make sure...
