Re: Driving Other Vehicles: Computer Says No
My Bongo is insured with ERS (through Adrian Flux), renewed in December 2023 and it covers me to drive other vehicles with the owner's consent.

Re: Oh look, it's another Newbie!
If you are after a camper converted Bongo but unsure what you want and are not in a hurry to get one then it could be a good idea to get along to a Bongo meet/rally. There you will usually be able to see different conversions and have a good chat with owners who will tell you the good and bad points...

Re: Oh look, it's another Newbie!
Welcome to the world of Bongos. Geoff (g8dhe) is very much an aficionado and always gives good advice, as do many of the other regulars on here and other Bongo sites. You say you are used to the maintenace and repairs of older cars and that will stand you in good stead with a Bongo, preventative mai...

Re: wheel temperatures while driving
The act of braking will create heat because of the friction of the pads against the disc. It depends how often and for how long the brakes are applied as to how much heat will be created. You say that the wheels were warm but then hot so unless you have been braking excessively you wouldn't expect t...

Ian, I have never met either you or Marianne but after many years of BF membership it just feels like I know you. My thoughts and condolences are with you at this very sad time.

Re: Oil extraction pump?
Pela Pumps are ones that a few Bongo owners have used. I have the Pela 6000 (holds 6 litres) and not had any problem getting the tube down the dipstick hole, just push it down until it hits the bottom then pull it back slightly so it can withdraw the oil. the cylinder is marked off in litre sections...

Re: Buying a Bongo
A little bit more information might help people to give help/advice. Which engine is it? How old is it (original build date not import into UK date)? Are you sure the mileage reading is actually in miles as many, if not most, register the distance travelled in kilometres not miles, if it is kms then...

Re: Thinking of joining the Bongo world
Have you seen the 'For Sale and Buying Guide' link on the front page of the site (https://igmaynard.co.uk/buying/#look). It gives good advice what to look for. If you are wanting a true camper and think your wife might be more amenable to one already fitted out and with an AFT so you can both stand ...

Re: new member
Welcome to the Bongo family Steve \:D/ , hopefully you have bought a good one but you will almost certainly need some advice and there are lots of knowledgable people on this site......two of them have already welcomed you I see. If you haven't already joined as a member I would urge you to do so as...

Have you tried earthing the engine to the body/chassis? If that isn't it I am sure Haydn will be along soon with some advice.

Re: Glow Plugs
You appear to have done a lot of searching for glowplugs, did you check out the shop on this site (Shop Bongo tab at the top of this page)? Some NGK glow plugs are shown but I don't know if Ian only sells NGK or other brands as well. Whatever he sells I would assume that they would be good quality p...

Very generous of you Mark . If you don't find another Bongo owner that can use it put it on ebay, somebody will buy it and you can spend the money on your Bongo......... on diesel probably

Re: Locate suitable power feed for relay switch
If the fuse that Geoff refers to is only powered when the engine is running as opposed to when the ignition is switched on, engine running or not, then that is the one to use. I am not doubting you Geoff, you are the man that knows but I know that a relay is used on cars for towing caravans so that ...
