Re: Another Scottish newbie

This looks like quite a good price though the arches are definitely shot.

Re: Hawick Bongo Dealer

Hi

You might want to check the mot history of the vans he has for sale. The mileage is quite different to.the advertised mileage and some don't have current MOTs despite what the ad says, although I suppose he might be intending to put an MOT on.

Re: Slight hiss/whistle burning oil smell passenger side.

Hi Yes it's possible the wet roads were to blame. I think though what we were hearing was just normal turbo noise. Probably more of a whisper than a hiss. Really hard to explain in writing. The hot oily smell is I think oil on the exhaust. The turbo is a bit oily and the big black pipe underneath qu...

Re: Yet another scottish potential owner

Hi

Good luck with your search, best to wait and be sure than gamble on something you're not entirely happy with.

With regards to the mileage on the Alloa van, could be as simple as one mot was measured in Km and the next in miles.

Still if you're not certain definitely better to walk away.

Re: Slight hiss/whistle burning oil smell passenger side.

Update. Had booked the van in for a once over next week, decided to give it a good clean and a long drive. Can no longer hear the odd noise, just normal turbo noise. The times we heard it before it was wet and today is gloriously sunny and dry. Have decided to stop worrying and cancelled bongo docto...

Re: Slight hiss/whistle burning oil smell passenger side.

Thanks for the photo to compare.

They do.look quite similar (to my completely untrained eye) my turbo looks a bit oiler but might have been like that for ages.

Sigh, think I'll give the garage a ring in the week. Can't hurt to have it checked over.

Re: Slight hiss/whistle burning oil smell passenger side.

If I find something oily that should not be I clean it up then keep an eye on it. (Now you have a reference photo) The engine compared to mine seems to look very similar. Quite clean looking in fact. I know that is not an immense amount of help. Did you run it and listen/observe ? I even have the s...

Re: Slight hiss/whistle burning oil smell passenger side.

Hi Checked oil, fine half way between high and low. Don't seem to be using more than normal. We had cambelt replaced last year. Coolant level fine. One of the clips under the seat is quite loose, will have a go at tightening it. Still need to find out why roof light flashing so might pop it down to ...

Re: Slight hiss/whistle burning oil smell passenger side.

Thanks all.

Will go out tomorrow and have a good delve. Sadly married a man who's fab with the kids, not a bad cook but can't do DIY or mechanics.

Luckily I take after my dad

Re: Slight hiss/whistle burning oil smell passenger side.

Just done thorough search on here. Hiss could be the turbo, not noticed it quite as much before, will try tightening seat clips. Still wondering about smell, just like hot engine, but by passenger side door rather than bonnet. Will do some seats up investigation tomorrow if it ever stops raining. By...
