Re: Worth a major rebuild???

+1 for the air assisters, worth the money without a doubt. Glad you had a great trip, we have just come back from Fontainbleau in the bongo. Wish we had more time to explore further South.

Re: Air Flow Sensor, 2L petrol.

Had a chat with our mechanic this morning, and the van is booked in to the garage on Wednesday. His immediate thought was just as you have said, which would have 'boiled' the brake fluid and caused the failure to work when we came to stop. To be honest I didn't take the time to check the wheels for ...

Re: Air Flow Sensor, 2L petrol.

Thanks Simon. I will ask the question at the garage when I speak to them. The other thought that popped into my head was that the inability to get the van moving could be something as simple as a seized brake, so will suggest we rule that out. I also noticed that the brakes were spongy yesterday aft...

Re: Air Flow Sensor, 2L petrol.

Well the saga continues. The van got us from Scotland to Font and back (South East of Paris), although I did notice it down on power from time to time, but I put it down to long motorway climbs fully loaded. Anyway today we were up past Pitlochry at Killiecrankie, and had a very definite loss of pow...

Re: Air Flow Sensor, 2L petrol.

Hi Mike.

I had a look at a few 'how to clean' videos in tinternet, but to be honest I wasn't convinced by any of them. The tolerances are such that one slip and it would be goosed anyway, so I thought it better to replace with new.

Re: Air Flow Sensor, 2L petrol.

Wey Hey!! Finally some good news.... new Mazda original part fitted and the van is back and running normally. Noticeably smoother on idle and not loosing power as you go up through the range. Fault code cleared automatically and all working as normal. The main Mazda dealer noted that this was not th...

Re: Air Flow Sensor, 2L petrol.

Thanks for the link Ady, interesting stuff. I will give it a try, but its been persisting for a few months now with several top ups from different places. New parts on its way now so will try that first. (fuel filter etc all new as well)

Cheers

David.

Re: Air Flow Sensor, 2L petrol.

Good news and bad news. After thinking the fault was either the return wire from the ECU or the ECU itself, after lots of testing both were confirmed as being in order, with all readings from ECU 'normal'. So its back to the after market part not working correctly. Bit the bullet and ordered the gen...

Re: Air Flow Sensor, 2L petrol.

Thanks for the replies folks. Some progress now! New replacement part arrived fitted and working..... that's the good news.... problem still persisting. Auto electrician has checked the output from the sensor to the ECU and its all fine, however it is not getting a signal back from ECU. So the fault...

Re: Air Flow Sensor, 2L petrol.

Hi Simon For the most part the van has been running fine, but we have noticed a big drop in power on gradients and around low revs (1.5 to 2.5K). The van is generally 'running lean', but not to the point that it has stalled. Diagnostics fault code point to the air flow sensor. I think given the time...

Air Flow Sensor, 2L petrol.

Hi folks. Been having problems with loss of power recently with our bongo. We have narrowed it down to a fault with the air flow sensor and have so far tried two after market units (which at 70 odd quid were far less expensive than the Mazda part), neither have been 'quite right' in the words of our...

Re: 2.0 ltr coolant flush.

Its the workshop manual you need not the owners one. The manual comes in two volumes. Volume 1 covers engine coolant etc, Volume 2 covers bodywork running gear etc. I think? The FE engine and the V6 are covered in the same manual if I remember correctly, so don't get confused by looking at the V6 pa...

Re: 2.0 ltr coolant flush.

Yep. No bleed tube on the 2L FE engine. We had our coolant replaced a couple of years ago and the process was straight forward according to the manual. I don't have our manual in front of me, but we bought ours from the bongo shop, may be worth getting one.

Re: Auto box 'sluggish' 2L petrol

Thanks for the replies folks. The engine appears to be revving OK, but it may well be idling at slightly lower revs than it was before the service. Could that have an effect on the change up / down in second? I will try loosening the fuel cap a bit to see if that helps. Out for a good long run in th...

Auto box 'sluggish' 2L petrol

Hi though I would flag this one, had a bit of a poke around search, but not really any similarities / other posts. The van is generally running great 98% of the time, but recently I have noticed that when the engine is cold there doesn't appear to be any 'umph' or pick up in 2nd. No matter how much ...
