My ultimate Bongo project - for life!

My ultimate Bongo project - for life! Ok so now I've got your attention here goes....... I have potential to buy a virtually mint Bongo shell (hardtop) for utter peanuts which is identical to mine in every way apart from no rust/dents. The shell will be virtually totally bare apart from windscreen a...

Re: Rough start up/smoke.

I have fitted both longer and shorter ones to my bongo though not both at the same time. For shorter ones I spaced the connecting live feed up a bit on the glow plugs using spare nuts/washers and made sure with a little manipulation that the positive feed didn't touch the head :D

Re: Rough start up/smoke.

I had same issue as described and have cured it. Removed glow plugs and one by one connected them to the live glow plug feed and earth them holding them with pliers against inlet manifold. One glow plug (the only newish one in the set a cheapo one) didn't glow so I replaced it, job done. New ones do...

Re: back end slide at round abouts....any ideas why?

To double check if you have a Limited Slip Diff, lift the back wheels off the ground, spin one wheel by hand, if the other wheel spins the same direction then you probably have an LSD if it spins the other way you have a normal "open" diff. It is only a rule of thumb though, some obscure t...

Re: back end slide at round abouts....any ideas why?

The only time the back end stepped out on mine was in the snow and I was provoking it although mine us 4wd with LSD, still caught me a bit by surprise but brought the back end in. I miss riding off road bikes

Re: V6 Noisy Tappets.

There are additives that may help, tappets tend to stick in engines that are used intermittently like bongos often are. I would suggest some additive and a good run (having checked oil level and the state of your oil) to see if this cures it. Sometimes a blowing exhaust manifold can sound like exces...

Re: Bongo TD Tuning Parts -interest?

Regarding the thermal gaskets, here is a link http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2628596 showing back to back dyno runs on a Honda Civic, initially there is only a 1 BHP gain but after three successive dyno runs the heat builds up in the inlet manifold without a heatshield gasket and it is down ...

Re: Limited Slip Differential

Mine is diesel, 4WD with LSD, abs, blinds, electric blinds, airbag, electric climate control etc. but no sunroof :( (cold weather model) and fabric seats although I regularly kick myself as I could have had the leather upholstery from the front seats of a 626 which is very similar construction. I go...

Re: Bongo TD Tuning Parts -interest?

As well as venting the crankcase breather he also removed the egr which probably accounts for the largest improvement in performance. The crankcase breather vents hot spent (as in burnt) oily gasses from the crankcase into the air intake, I joined another section of pipe (waste pipe from my old wash...

Re: Limited Slip Differential

Hurrah - I have a limited slip diff :D always suspected it as at "crabs" when turning sharp turns slowly and you can feel it engage on the slippy stuff.

Being 4wd and lsd it is really good on mud and snow having tested out particularly on dartmoor in the winter :D

I replaced the valve seals on mine about 2 years ago but my bottom end was a bit of an unknown quantity replacement. Mine breathes quite heavily losing the odd drop of oil

Re: Bongo TD Tuning Parts -interest?

..and I imagine the volume of air going through the engine increases with rpm, and the volume of fuel is increased to maintain efficient combustion. I understand that too rich is pointless, but is too weak dangerous, or just a missed opportunity for density of energy release? It is quite difficult ...
