Re: Thinking of getting a Bongo...

Show me a camper van that has 'good' mpg.....a brand new VW California diesel is given at circa 32mpg for £60K. Yesterday I drove to Frome and back 300mile round trip, circa 30mpg doing a nice 55-60mph; I have no complaints.

Re: Bike Rack

Loads of posts on here. Thule 973-18 Backpac 2 is my choice, great bike rack above number plate etc. Added bonus recently for me as is it takes the Thule Backup 900 storage box when the bikes are not on it, which is great for all the gear from the van in the 420L box. The rack stays on all the time ...

Thule Roof Bars for a Tin-Top

Purchased a Roof Top Tent. Before picking it up it needs roof bars to attach it on top of the van; having read/searched there are some conflicting posts over the years on what roof bars can go on the tin-top and it seems the part numbers have changed. Given it has an 'old fashioned' gutter the only ...

Re: Should I change tyres?

When I bought my van it had 215 all round, I went for OE spec when I replaced the fronts with the thinner tyres and much prefer the steering feel and ride.

DVLA Regulations: thinking of converting your van?

Guidance has been out a few months, but there has been little discussion on here about the ramifications of the 'new' regulations? I may be wrong on that. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/converting-a-vehicle-into-a-motor-caravan/converting-a-vehicle-into-a-motor-caravan The rules on regis...

Re: JAL sub 2m pop top roof

Just a thought, is your van registered as a camper with DVLA? Have you seen the new guidance re pop tops? It changes things dramatically for re-registering a Bongo and other vans. The guidance is draconian requiring a hi-top (pop tops do not meet the requirement anymore!!!) and 'graphics' on the sid...

Re: Wild camping

I'm looking forward to normality to resume once again in September onwards, the SE countryside/coastal areas are absolutely packed.......not fun, I am a young Meldrew though. Been giving Park4Night a wide berth as popularity has exploded together with inconsiderate wild campers, booze and littering....

Re: JAL sub 2m pop top roof

Thanks for the welcome Bob :D I am not sure how it operates - The guy I spoke to on the phone wasn't particularly forthcoming with details for it. I'll try and find out some more about it He also said he doesn't have any that he can show me in person currently so I am really looking to see if anyon...

Re: How much stuff do I safely carry in a bike rack storage box?

Watching your vidsl been meaning to get a storage box for the back as I have a Thule bike rack already which I use a lot, don't take bikes when we go away for a few days so extra storage would be most welcomed, just managed to get the Backpack 900 on eBay as new by the look of it for £250 picking it...

Re: Pop top roof bed modification with gas struts

What an excellent modification, the conversion companies should follow your lead; having the loose roof boards is a massive downside and has always left me thinking when I have sat or stood in an aftermarket pop top that it is neither one thing or another given the inability to use the space quickly...

Re: Summer camping

Yeh I agree Bob but what's more entertaining than watching a couple put up a new tent when he won't just read the instructions and she is just waiting for him to mess up and ask for help. Best laughs you can have for free.😁 Has always been the female that never reads any instructions in my experience

Buzzer saved me backing into my wall yesterday, thought it was in drive, just before I pushed the accelerator the buzzer noise dawned on me; not sure what planet I was on.

Re: Swivelling Bench Seat from Northstar Conversions

As stated further up the thread the box seats/storage needs to come out, easy except if full of gear that are not in bags.
