Re: Have I made a Freda boo boo ?

You're getting to know your van, then... some good signs so far, at least. :D The rocker cover is unlikely to be at fault - the gasket's do compress over time, so nipping up the bolts (be gentle - don't overdo it) may be enough, but may not. If it's still weeping, I think the gaskets are a tenner, a...

Re: those $%^$$ drop links!

The "old rattle", or a "new rattle"...? ;) ARB bushes are a commonly replaced item. You can do it with the bar in place, just take both brackets off, replace the rubbers and bolt both brackets back on again. You can't torque the front drop links without taking into account the ad...

Re: Roof rail microswitches

I think I identified a replacement part... viewtopic.php?f=72&t=48079 , but they are prohibitively expensive. You could try a breaker. Basically, from memory, there is a slider on the carriage and a rubber nobble that should help to push the slider against the lever of the microswitch. The metal...

Re: WHY DOES THE FAN START WHEN IGNITION IS ON

If you lift up the driver or passenger's seat - you can see the scavenger fan, just in front of the engine - angled slightly up the way. The radiator fans are bolted onto the back of the radiator, and harder to see (though you can feel the air with the seats up).

Cheers - misinformation - I'm sure somebody somewhere used to sell them at a ridiculous price. Glad to know not everything on a Bongo is silly price.

Sensible.

The shape of the tank and its internal baffles mean that seeing the bottom of the tank through the neck doesn't necessarily mean you're seeing the very bottom of the tank - unless you're looking down left between the baffles.

Re: WHY DOES THE FAN START WHEN IGNITION IS ON

First off, which fan... then first checks are free - are the connectors attached, corroded? Otherwise, checking the wires, testing the sensors themselves...?

Radiator fan(s) or the scavenger fan just in front of the engine? The sensor connections to check, res...

Re: Low coolant on second hand puchased...

The hoses out of the header tank are ever so slightly lower down than the bottom of the tank that you can see through the hole - if you get a bright torch and shine it through the tank, you should see the level ok. If it drops down to the hoses, then when circulating, air from the header tank will g...

Re: Auto Trans Fluid...

Fluid should be nice a pink/clear. Only worry if it's dark and smells like burnt toast. There should be a factsheet in the members' area on how to check the level - requires cycling through the gears while stationary and then checking level. Perhaps repeated in a thread if you search hard enough.

Re: Auto Trans Fluid...

No, there is no auto fluid sump plug, though some may have had one fitted in the sump on removal, I'm not sure. You can remove a whole lot using the likes of a Pela pump, probably enough to then just refill, but need to drop the sump to finish off the drain, remove any scruff off the magnet that sit...
