Cat Flap - PLEASE DO NOT DELETE

Post by umbongocat » Wed Nov 07, 2012 11:53 pm

The cat flap is available from 321 Away. All you have to do is call them and they'll make you the roof and change roofs over when you go and pick it up. It's aptly named after myself but I can't take the credit for the idea, it was umbongochris who came up with the idea. Here are all the pictures we have of ours. Ours was a prototype and they now cover the metal bits with a strip of velvet so it looks nicer. It is a great adaptation. I said to Ian I would write up a fact sheet with pictures about it but I've not had a chance, so I'm posting it on here again for now :)

I've uploaded pics for those who ask me about it and hopefully, this thread won't get deleted like the past ones on the "cat flap".

All I know is that it's not just a straightforward cutting of the roof, some re-inforcement is put in, but you would have to check with 321 Away or try Northernbongolow on here who adapted his own after seeing ours :)

Thanks for posting the pics. I always wondered what this was.
Sorry for being dumb, but what is the advantage of this mod?

ive done a few =D> =D> . and the advantages are that in the daytime the separated roof half can be stacked onto the remaining hinged half so giving more head room/light. but the main advantage is that when 2 people are sleeping upstairs, if one needs to go down the sleeper can be left in place and the other can escape easier. kids can sleep full length and still be in view of adults sleeping down stairs.

Haven't gone out with tape measure yet (it's chucking it down outside) but what is the effective bed length with the new rear flap left open?
We're a pair of shorties, so just thinking a small ladder to an upstairs 'bedroom', reverse middle seats, rear kitchen unit, hmm.. :)

Nope, doesn't look feasible. We could manage with 5'8" length of bed, but that doesn't leave enough room for access. Back to the drawing board :(

Is there a "how to" on this. I think this is what we require.

Me too! I'm wanting to do this as well. Not sure what to cut the roof with and where to get the aluminium to finish the edges off.

The ones 321 make don't have the aluminium finish like the one you see on ours here. This was a prototype and they now finish it off with soft fabric which is much better. The aluminium you see would get very cold and not so nice.

Northern Bongolow knows the 'how to do' bit as he did a couple himself. Maybe give him a shout or pay 321 to do it... it's well worth doing... best adaptation we ever did for both adults and children :)

Yes basically! Catherine is still around from time to time so maybe if she sees this she might still have the images or can get them down from PhotoBucket in which case I don't mind hosting a few images on my servers here.
