LPG conversion !

Can I just let you all know about MY LPG conversion....

Well, I'll cut to the chase and as we all know, the trusty Bongo, ( mine being Puff The Tragic Wagon ) only do about 22 mpg.....

So,

£1150.oo later and I"m doing just that but at half the price, thus affording me 38 mpg in real terms ( or so )

I can't stop going on about it so I thought I would post here, I have not noticed any lack of power at all !

The only thing that folks might have an issue with is the lack of spare wheel when it's done, that is the space they use for the tank. But.....isn't that what we pay RAC for ?

So, let me know your experience with it or if your having reservations then maybe I can make you feel good...

It cost me today, £50 to do 300 miles instead of the usual £75, and that is for the commute. I got an extra 50 miles on the open road doing a long run.

I would have to suggest ditching the desiel and going for the petrol with a view to convert..... I had mine done by Mint LPG in Wales, if any one wants the details i can forward them onto you...This is not a plug for them, I just really wanted to shout about it as now I can use the wagon every day instead of worrying about how much it's going to cost to pick up my daughter from school.

I guess that for that price you have the 2 litre engine? The V6 conversion is usually a bit more than that. What make system did you go for? Where did they put the filler cap. Have you got any photos? I'm just looking round for quotes to get mine done.

Simon, Yea, we have the 2ltr and we got the Ramano as well

The filling nozzle is at the rear near the fog light, very discreet and they didn't punch a hole in the side of the wagon so all good........I don't have any piccys as there is nothing to see really....but give Mint LPG a call in the Wales

Just had a look at Profess where I had both of my conversions done (Bongo and peugeot 206) ...

They are doing v6 now for £950 including VAT they use AC Stagg systems (about 150 less than when I had mine done) ....

Poland have used LPG far more widely than us for much longer and the guys at Profess are all Polish and extremely pleasant to deal with.

I had the peugeot fill put in the middle low down as it means I can go either side of a pump (assuming there are 2!) to reduce waiting time to fill.

PS dont be distracted at the pump - I drove off one day trailing the fill pipe behind me !!

Paul @ lpgimorts(Coventry) fitted the Bongos filler onto the tow bar looks neat with no holes drilled in the side panel or bumper ..



The guy who did my Toyota fitted it into the bumper .. maybe better if it had been colour coded ..



Only just thought ... in the all the years of using LPG in my Toyota I reckon I have only filled her up 2-3 times ... most 'filling stations' I use do it for me ..!!

There is a new Polish gas fitting place opened quite close to me .. I don't now what there fitting prices are .. but there LPG price is the cheapest that I now to in my area @ 64p a litre ...

I've heard mixed reviews about some of the Polish systems, although they can offer great value for money, so currently thinking along the lines of Prins @ AJC Classics or Romano as per Haydn. GasPower in Exeter have been highly recommended to me, but they're charging about £2k which is relatively expensive. Thinking about having filler in the bumper as I've currently not got a towbar fitted to mount it on.

I have seen holes drilled in motors outer panels for the LPG filler cap .. if I did not have the tow bar I would have had my Romano gas filler in the bumper...

Just a word of advise .. although the Zavoli system on my Toyota as been flawless .. I did query the fitter sometime later about the floor panel above the gas tank 'sagging' .. he remarked that they all did that with the weight of the gas tank ..

Not so said Paul @ lpgimporters(Coventry) ... "it's because they have (wrongly) fitted the more common 'in the boot' doughnut LPG tank .. underneath my Toyota .. and that's the type of tank used in vehicles where the spare wheel is in the boot .. under the mat " ..

So .. be sure to say that they ..will .. be fitting a proper 'under slung' doughnut tank and not one intended for an internal 'in the boot' fitments ..

had my conversion done in november.

think it is well worth it.

a few tweaks had to be made to get him running ok. now all seem fine only little thing i have found is at high end 70mph going up hills lacks a bit of push, that when on petrol it seems to have. think it is due to lower octane of lpg. fine on other stints.

have worked out getting about 45mpg when worked out. really please i converted.

Did you buy that from Profess or from the AC Stagg site? Is it easy to tune? Ive got two vehicles now on LPG and the 206 run around is running abit rich - much as I enjoy popping down to Wales to see the rellies etc it woudl be easier to do it at home ... do you have specialist knowledge that helped you with this - i think Andy (apole) also did his - I guess im just being a bit of a wuss !!

Hi All, Newbie Bongo owner here (collect her on wednesday ! ), thought I'd offer a little story about LPG and the RAC. I recently suffered a blow out on my LPG car on the motorway, no amount of tyre weld was going to help. A call to the RAC started with the concerning issue that I wouldn't be covered for recovery because I wasn't carrying a spare tyre, eventually I was fine because the LPG was a factory fitted system and not a retrofit.i.e. I was covered without a spare because I was operating the car within the manufacturers original design. Be warned!

Having said all that I am getting LPG fitted to my new van because the savings will pay me back in less than a year! A full blow out is pretty rare in my experience and a can of tyre weld should get you out of most scraps.

I was going to wing it , but having had a puncture at motorway speed the other week, I'm now tempted to look into one of the sealant treatments available. I may also investigate fitting a spare wheel to a rear ladder.
