Must have been quite a few years ago HMRC allow you to use up to 2500 litres of veg oil per year without paying duty on itc1rider wrote: Some years ago, when diesel first started rocketing in price, I looked into using veg oil and found that there were quite a few pitfalls. Some of these have been covered here, but the one that no-one is mentioning is the fact that duty hasn't been paid, and HMRC don't like it a lot
Sorry, another noob asking about veg oil.

KTC £9.90 for 10 litres (the cardboard shrouded plastic can that's a pain to pour) in Morrisons today.

Not me - the more tax they evaded, meant more for the rest of us to payc1rider wrote:I feel sorry for all those who had their vehicles confiscated

Veg oil prices are going through the roof at the mo because of the bad harvest.

Perhaps it is last season's stock but I have enjoyed some good deals recently.Terri & colin wrote:Veg oil prices are going through the roof at the mo because of the bad harvest.
Does anyone know how well it keeps? I imagine it could go rotten if exposed to germ ridden atmosphere.

I got a few bottles of Veggie oil today for my diesel Bongo's MOT tomorrow. Asda £1.37 per litre, Tesco £1.49 per litre and B & M stores £1.29 per litre. You can guess where I bought my veggie oil.

Without wanting to sound really thick...
I've just come across this thread so have started to read through other threads, and it sounds like I can just put veg oil straight into the fuel tank and make sure there's plenty of diesel in, around 20%, I don't have to get a special filter or conversion? Is there anything I should watch out for or do? I'm not very mechanically minded, so if it involves me doing anything to the engine etc...

So far I've had no problems doing this, straight into the tank, no mods, but my van objects if the mix is too strong, so I keep it quite conservative, say 50L diesel to 10-15L veg max in warm weather. Haven't tried veg in hard winter yet, but I would imagine that it would thicken easier than diesel in cold temps, so will prob stick to diesel only if we get into big minuses.
I have heard of people running almost 100% veg on long runs, just having a bit of diesel in to get started, and adding a bit at the end of a run, but haven't been brave enough to try that!
Just start out cautiously, gradually increase until she lets you know there's too much veg.

Re: Sorry, another noob asking about veg oil.
Just no point in using veggie oil at the moment unless your Bongo is going in for an MOT test since it is more expensive than diesel in most shops. Hopefully next year the price of veggie oil will once again be well below the price of diesel. Seems bound to be if the price of diesel rockets again next and there is a good harvest of oilseed rape.
