Okay, 2500 litres in veg oil is a fair whack, but if it's used as a fuel as has been pointed out shouldn't it be taxed the same as other fuels. From reading veg oil threads, you'd have to use around 45-55% diesel to mix as well......that's a guess from memory, as I've read folks run on pure oil when engine up to temp!

The point I'm trying to make is that the various fuels we use aren't taxed in a fair and proportionate way across the board. So, if I have a sniff about a larger rise in my duty I feel that someone stating 'tough' is a bit inconsiderate.

"As long as it doesn't happen to me", springs to mind!

Don't get me wrong, I plumbed for LPG as it makes our bongo cheaper to run. I applaud anyone who can run their vehicle as cheaply as possible.

All this big society nonsense gets on my wick. Fine in speeches and in principle, but smacks of too much socialism for my liking. There's a level of taxation fair enough, but not a cosh to finance 'those that won't' lifestyles of fags and daytime tv!

Can't remember, just how much is the annual welfare bill?

Saying that imagine if we were going to be taxed as the French premier intends...

Welllll....the French get REALLY soaked in tax...so do they in other countries....not the point, really, as we are talking fuel....Personal belief is that they should be taxed, as you say, Bongodonkey...PROPORTIONATELY...but how the blazes are we going to estimate it?....calorific value / pollutant level / energy available per litre consumed?...everyone moans whatever is decided...the Dutch call the car the "Holy Cow", and whatever we say about fuel, feeding the Holy Cow with taxed-to-the-hilt feed does seem immoral to it's owners, but if they don't grab tax at the pump, they'll stick it to you on some other tax which may abuse the low-mileage owner, or even the person who doesn't own a car.
The answer is to criticise wastage at Government level....There's a lot of expenditure that just shouldn't happen when you look at how the UK faithfully obeys EU regulations, and the rest of the bunch just look skywards and ignore compliance with what the hell they choose.....it makes me itch when I look at what goes on outside the UK, so how come does the true English worker have to foot the bill for some lazy beggars in the far corners of the EU????
Please take careful note that by English, I refer to my country, but it includes the Four Nations which comprise the UK, and I would naturally refer to the country I was born in by reason of geography alone, as they are all equal

As for taxation, well quite simple really. Same tax level on each fuel..........now we'll see if anyone gets upset with heating oil............

I'm just really miffed at the fact my family is struggling to save at the moment. We both work and earn good money, but we seem to hemorage it constantly. Done all the tricks of economising etc etc and it's only nipped a bit back.

Considered giving the bongo up, but thankfully the millisecond passed!

Asked the wife if i could trade her and the kids in for cheaper models and well, y'know got one of those LOOKS..

Bizzarely when we move oop north, take a significant pay cut with new jobs we will actually be better off. Despite our best efforts, living in the big smoke of that London is breaking us with its costs..............roll on civvy street is all i can say.........yes I know, it means I'll have to get a real job and all that jazz

I am retired know living 100% just off OAP 'money from the post office' .. nothing tucked away in shoe boxes / pension plans / stocks & shares / property / investments etc: .. but I generally live OK and have a good quality of life .. to be honest although like most 'I moan' I would not want to live anywhere else than England ..!!

I got an extra £200 cold weather payment yesterday that many "hard up pensioners" fail to say and we also get with another £25 each time the temperatures drops below freezing for a week ..

But ... one of the issues with UK tax is the level and what we get taxed on, for what we receive in relation to it ..

Today I got the renewal (V11) for road tax on the Bongo .. £220 for another years driving on rutted ..pot holed .. congested roads .. even having to pay to park on most off them when not driving ..

Just ordered my LPG conversion today, so will be running on gas by 1st December. Just need to crank up the mileage to speed up the pay back time. Any excuse to drive the Bongo a bit more

Still can't believe the hypocrisy of the govt to increase taxation on a greener fuel than petrol or diesel. Doesn't Cameron run around in a Jag running on LPG because of the act that LPG has less affect on the ozone layer?

I believe it's Prins VSI being fitted by Gas Power Uk in Exeter. Not the cheapest installer around, but having been to visit them and spoken to a couple of their customers, I'm confident they offer the best overall package including 4 years of servicing.

We did the same with Olive.......repeat customers - not the cheapest but excellent service, solid reputation and part of the the good garage scheme...

Everytime you fill up on gas you'll have a huge grin........know it's still around 74ppl but it feels like your'e driving for free.........well almost

Summer just gone I found a French supermarket selling gas at an equilivent of 62ppl...........

We got a large 85l tank giving us around 70l +/- of gas.........with that capacity we were getting 450kms at 75 mph fully loaded on the French toll roads.........I believe the term....'cheap as chips'........As we got our conversion with our purchase, the cost was factored in already so I steered away from totting the milage up until the gas had paid for itself. Some people think it's on average about 17k miles to pay for itself, but I just crack on......

The other benefit is that the bongo will run cleaner as the gas isn't as dirty a fuel as petrol which is kinder to the engine.

The original post was in relation to the government raising the tax / price on LPG for road vehicles as opposed to LPG in domestic heating ..

I did casualty query with the guy who supplies LPG for my motors about the feasibility of having a 'rural type' domestic LPG tank at home and using it to fill my own motors as there is no road fuel tax .. a bit like using Veggy .. or very illegal red diesel ... but with no change of dipping the tank ..

No go he said .. as domestic LPG supplies the house with gas (via the top of the storage tank) .. where as the 'filler' for vehicles is at the bottom of the tank to supply liquid gas ... and if the ('Calor' gas) tanker driver noticed any modifications he was obliged to notify his 'office' of any irregularities ..

All vehicle duty is a government rip off ... I pay 0.71p a litre locally for what is essentially a 'waste' by product of the gas / petrol chemical industry ..

Half a mile away at the diesel truck stop they sell CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) for 0.27p a litre ... how long before the Government realise that some buses / lorries are paying less than diesel ..??

My friends are hot air balloonists Mike - its something you need to take up in that case ... hint hint
