petrol tickover

Hi, just wondering about my tickover. It's a 2l petrol normally ticks over just over 1000 revs and just under a 1000 if I'm sat at a junction with my foot on the brake, it will pull forward if I take my foot off. Is that normal for an auto as I've never had one before so still learning how it operates.

Oh also I've fitted a digital temp gauge the sensor is fitted to a clip bolt on the rocker cover anyone know what sort of temp it will read it seems to read about 50 going along and rises to about 70 standing still, I'm thinking my thermostat might be suspect?

Yes they do creep forward from a standstill
I've now got used to knocking it into neutral
And I now drop it down manually as slowing down ( with the hold button and then going into 2 and 1 gear manually with stick )
Think it's better for the torque converta or something to go into neutral at standstill
And using the gears to slow down is something I always do with my manual works van and it must save on brake pads with the auto bongo

For the 2l FE-E engine the manual says Idle revs should be 800±20 RPM so it won't help being a bit on the high side.

Try for 700~800 (without lumpy tick over)that should cure the creep.

A point to remember ... when the air conditioning is on .. the tick over speed increases slightly ..

I'd rather replace brake pads than the gearbox

Temp sounds o.k. For a sensor in the position you mention....stat will be working fine once you get up to temp.....patrols do run very cool.
