Bored with Butties phase 05a

Talk about non-Bongo stuff. BUT KEEP IT CLEAN....there are children watching. Smut, filth, and anything offensive will not be tolerated and removed immediately.

Bored with Butties phase 05a

Post by Muzorewa » Wed Feb 15, 2012 3:18 pm

I did say that I would keep this going on an occasional basis, I didn’t really intend it to be quite so occasional but never mind. Jr is doing some more ‘work experience’ – not sure about the work but it’s certainly an experience  so any excuse to rustle something up in the Bongo for lunch.

As a diversion from one of my favourites, I thought we’d do a Spanish/Mexican fusion, a kind of imperialists & colonialists merged, or the conquistadores revenge :D Now tortilla has a completely different meaning on each side of the Atlantic, in Spain a tortilla is a Spanish omelette, or potato & eggs with a few other random things thrown in, whereas in México it’s just a flour or corn flatbread. So, what about tortilla tortillas, or for the scientists, tortilla squared?

Much the same script as before, slowly fry some spuds in olive oil the night before because I don’t have all day for lunch – or dare I say crack open some tinned spuds.... [-X

Image
....then round up some chorizo, onion, cherry tomatoes, garlic, peas & parsley....

Image
....fry the onion, garlic & chorizo in some oil....

Image
....then add the peas, tomatoes & parsley....

Image
....crack some eggs into the spuds, add a little salt and the rest of the ingredients....

Image
....then bung it all back in the pan.

Image
Fry gently on one side, then use a proper tortilla-turner to flip it to avoid it all slopping onto the floor of your Bongo (what do you mean, you don’t have a tortilla-flipper in your Bongo?)....

Image
....and slide it back in the pan to do the other side. You’ll also notice I’m wearing official Team cufflinks

Image
¡Perfectamondo!

Image
Rip open some flour tortillas, stick on some sliced tortilla....

Image
....and do the deli-wrap thing 8)

Now, I have to inform you that shop-bought tortillas are rubbish. Get some masa harina (maize flour) and mix into a dough with some warm water (you can get maize flour from a good health-food emporium and I’m always in that kind of place as you’ll well know

Image
Stick some of the dough in a tortilla press (what do you mean, your Bongo doesn’t have a tortilla press? :? )....

Image
....give it some welly....

Image
....using plazzy bags to stop it sticking to the plates....

Image
....and slap the tortilla in a dry frying pan, blisteringly hot (at least it would be blisteringly hot if it wasn’t mid-winter and the butane wasn’t reluctant to vapourise) ....

Image
....then make your tortilla tortillas burrito-style, adorned with a suitably spicy accompaniment, for a lunch seriously worth making the effort for

Erm, thought you were driving this beauty these days. The car, not the lady.

Love the food, especially impressed with the tortilla press, knew we should have gone for the deluxe conversion, will it make pie?

Ah, that's the DeLux tortilla press, that one was 20p extra. I have tried using WD40 but it taints the tortillas, and tainting your tortillas is no laughing matter :(

Aha - here's a plate of fresh tortillas, done on a hob capable of getting the pan hot enough, gas courtesy of British Gas. Butane would be ok in the summer
