We stayed at a site near Dumfries recently, at a place called "Midge Glen".

I should have known better really!

I didn't realise that Carounn had Bog Myrtle in it. I can confirm that rubbing Carounn on your arms doesn't help (I didn't have anything else, and remembered hearing years ago that Gin worked!)

However, drinking lots of it does help - in so much as you don't care that the little 'darlings' are ripping the flesh off you.

(Just for the record, I was using Fentiman's Tonic this time!)

Fever-Tree tonic is rather good as well...........for drinking not keeping the midges away

Also worth starting your daily Marmite routines NOW. Not sure of the merits of topical application though - I've yet to try it.

If you ring up just now, the lady who's answering the phone is very helpful. She said that she couldn't do single night bookings over the phone, and then did just that. I mentioned a group of Bongos descending on them, which seemed to help =D>

Update, Six vans booked in so far with other possibles for the Saturday night,

I have just noticed that they advise not using sat nav to get there, Go to Aviemore and then follow signs for the ski centre. The campsite is about 7 miles along the road on the right hand side. If you come to the funicular you have just taken it too far!

I'll be travelling up from the South on the Sat, probably arriving early afternoon.

Who's planning on going up to the top, either on foot or by funicular?
