Lazy start on Diesel Bongo

Post by SlimFastShady » Thu Jul 09, 2020 8:35 pm

Hi,
Was after a little guidance on an issue with my '99 Diesel Bongo. It has a lazy start which seems to be getting worse. When i turn the key it starts to turn over but doesnt fire up for a few seconds, its not once failed to actually go and is intermittent, but the frequency of getting a longer period to start is now more often than the times it fires up instantly which is annoying so looking for reason for this?

Checked the battery connection and its tight and looks clean. Is it worth checking starter contacts etc? I also think it can be worse after a run when I'd expect the opposite.

Also because i work away the battery has went flat a couple of times in the last few years but this wouldn't account for the intermittent nature as it can go straight away.

All help appreciated.

Gut instinct says glow plugs.

Be aware there are different lengths.

Thanks for the reply, are they different lengths across different models and where dos this info come from?

Is there any test you can do for this?
Will check the forum on here.
