It might be worthwhile checking that the connector is sound and clean, also the wiring from the connector.

The fans run all the time if the starter battery is not good, maybe check this out.

Unless there is a known temp sensor malaise associated with the bongos if mine was down on power and difficult to start I would be looking at another possible problem

So I have now solved the problem after some head scratching and a bit of consulting. I basically needed to replace the ECU (as a capacitor had blown/leaked). On replacing this, the fan issue was solved, as were the starting and gear issues. Replacing the ECU is pretty straightforward for the uninitiated (unscrew and unplug), and the fault was obvious when I looked at the board. Worth checking if others have similar issues....
However, I wouldn't have solved it so quickly without input from Graham (at bongo-parts.co.uk), AVAleisure and Rich (at MLT Dorking). All helpful in ultimately diagnosing the issue and solving it. Huge thanks to all.

Ah was that the one on FB with a leaky capacitor ?
