Silly question but how do I change a fuse

Hi

Sorry for what will almost certainly sound a silly question to all you mechanical types, but how do you change a fuse?

My rear windscreen de-mister isn't working and I want to rule out a blown fuse before I go back to the dealer.

I have located the fusebox under the dash and I can see from the members area factsheets which fuse controls the de-mister. If I want to change this do I just pull it out and replace it with a new one, or is it more complicated than this?

Also can I buy a new fuse at Halfords or are the Bongo fuses special types?

Just pull it out and put a new one in ,if its blown, halfords do sell them as do other motor parts shops.

There are two fuses for the Rear Demister, the large 30 Amp (PAL male) which actually handles the power to the heating element,

there is also this smaller (Miniblade) 10 Amp that handles the switch and relay;

They simply pull out, but you may find its difficult to get the fingers around them, there is a small tool available;

but a pair of pliers also works, you should be able to see if they are blown by looking at the top centre bit if its not nice and smooth shiny (OK) then its either missing or looks decidedly wrong (not OK)!
Yes the fuses should be available from Halfrauds or the Bongo Fury shop does a kit of the common ones.

If you can't be ar**d to get one of those little plastic fuse pullers which I personally find a bit useless. Then use a strong pair of tweezers or a small pair of pointed pliers which is my preference.

You should have one of those plastic (yellow) fuse pullers slid / clipped in the bottom of the fuse box....unfortunately, you need the snipe-nosed pliers to pull the dang thing out...well...I do , as I keep breaking fingernails when I play games of "fuse box"

Is no.1 fuse for the central locking?

Currently using it for the L/B split charger, so no locking, hence silly question

Everything else 'touch wood' ok

These two fuses handle the standard power locks;
The control circuit

the actuator circuit

If you have a remote central locking then the power to the receiver will most likely have its own in-line fuse tucked away somewhere when it was fitted.

Yep the top left Ive got a wire from the L/B split charger

If you have a L/B fitted then you will often find that at least the top row, two end fuses will be removed and the feeds replaced by the L/B feeds, also the two 15 Amp fuses on the right hand side (these power the blinds) are also removed and feeds replaced by the L/B. There is no need to worry about this, other than to make sure that the Master fuse for the L/B feed and that the battery itself is charged. Charging of the L/B via the relay will all be handled under the bonnet with two fuses close to the batteries and the relay between these two fuses - do make sure that there are TWO fuses close to the batteries feeding the relay, its been found in that past that some amateur converters only use a single fuse and this is wrong and dangerous!

Would anyone be able to tell me where the fuse is for the LB which controls the 12v leads that goes to the water pump please?
I’ve tried to add a cooler onto the same lead but no longer has power. Although when I check the LB it has enough power in. Thinking a fuse went when playing around with wore as did not disconnect the batteries!?

Conversions and add ons like electrical power are not standard items they have been added hence they come in all types, styles and configurations without some information or photos of your setup then nobody knows for sure! Do you have a control panel for EHU and 12 volts if so which Make and model there are several, they often contain fuses and switches.
Coolboxes are not a good choice they are very power hungry and will flatten a battery overnight, OK when driving when the engine and alternator are providing the power but as soon as you stop then the battery is going down. Compressor fridges are much better and will run for several days from a LB, but much more expensive.

Thanks. Trouble is I can’t change cooler right now as it’s being rented tomorrow!
It’s a basic set up of kitchen in the rear. 12v lead running all the way from LB to the sink where it feeds water pump. Thought I could just add another lead off that to feed the cooler but now neither are working. Guess fuse but no idea which one or where!?

Where are you located?

Someone local may offer help, but rally it's a case of following wires to find the fuse.
