I should try Maynard or a motor factor first. Mazda dealer will cost you huge amounts of ??. Sorry I don't know if they are common to any other model, not having needed any yet. I am sure one of the cognoscentii will telly you.

If you do need replacement pads, try a good motor factor first. Take one of the pads with you. They have pattern books and will be able to see if they have anything to match.

Apec 1026
and
Apec 883.

Mazda use virtually the same brakes for all their vehicles apparently ao any motor factors.

AndrewJ, it says in the parts section: "Front Brake Pads (Full set)" for "?47.75". I would read that as meaning for front axle i.e. 2 for left, 2 for right. I may be wrong in that assumption, but if not then that's half the Mazda price. If you check out Bongobits.com, you can get a set (4 according to the picture) for ?21.95 inc VAT:
http://www.bongobits.com/Main.asp?PageN ... Product=21

If that is the case then, then that works out as 1/4 Mazda price for "a pair brake pads"! It pays to shop around, although I would urge to to buy them from Bongo Towers to keep Ian happy :)

just in the process of changing pads and now found the source of my gas leak sound. the disc on the front right side is warped and rubbing against the side of the pad mounting. although it didnt sound all the time, an intermitant sound if u like. i assume i need to replace these aswell now? what could cause this to happen? it might just be a time thing but i doubt it.

cheers in advance

after taking my time on the noise soure wheel i found it a breeze on the other side. any1 considering doing ur own pads i would recommend the fact sheet. 10/10. as for the sound it has now gone but lookin @ the pads that came off they are worn of square, ie more off @ the bottom than the top which leads me back to the warped disc issue. any know why this would happen? wheel alignment? Also found 2 pieces in the jack kit and not sure what they do. 2 pieces that shape into triangle things. are they wheel stop wedges?

The triangles are chocks to use on the diametrically opposed wheel to that which you are jacking up.
One reason for disc warp is that if your brakes are very hot ( lots of hard braking round town or coming off motorway etc) then you come to a halt and keep your foot on the brake pedal this causes the part of the disc that is clamped by the pads to retain heat whilst the rest of the disc cools down. This uneven cooling can cause the disc to warp. It is more prevalent on ventilated discs (as on most front wheels these days) as the actual disc wall is about half as thick as the old solid discs used to be,
It sounds as though the 'run out' is too much for a re-grind if the disc is fouling the caliper. You could take the disc off and find a specialist engineering firm check the run out and advise if it might be possible to grind them flat.
