Incidentally.. (Throwing this question out.) The new belts i received are the V type but toothed?? As opposed to the ones i replaced which was just the straight V band..

Am i right in thinking the grip on the drive wheels will be the same? (So long as the tension is right.)

they are ok jamie, i think the idea is that they go round smaller pulleys better, ie bend tighter. they may tend to wear quicker though as there is less srface area in contact with the pulley------------maybe.

Regarding the tension. To be honest i would have got handy with cloth covered jemmy bar, but there seemed to be too much coolant pipe inlet/stat/bleed hose stuff in the way if it slipped & went wrong..?!!

well spoke to the company this mnorning an want a plesure to deal with refund on the way even befor i send it back + some to cover cost of posting with out even asking for that

Good news regarding my tensioner find too... Got a voice message this morning from my man at the Mazda garage.. The part has arrived.. The remark was "it looks like a pretty good match"!

Though i will be taking issue up with Vodafone.. The message was left last Saturday at 11.45!! I also got a text this morning from my wife asking if i wanted to have a late Sunday lunch when i finished work too...

If all goes well tomorrow? i' post the part numbers..

Bingo!! Spot on with the alternator belt tensioner..

I ordered the whole thing with the long bolt & the nut to be sure.. The Mazda schematic drawing looks nothing like this!!
However the thread fits the long bolt & so does the securing nut, so really you would only need the captive bolt bit that breaks...! I'd go for the troublesome nut as well?



Mazda part numbers for the assembly that you see... (Cant remember which vehicle. Off one of the vans??)

For fax sake somebody capture that product info in a factsheet on changing your alternator. Well done Jaylee - thats a real find.

I actually have Harry's old alternator in stock for when mine goes (cos they always do...eventually ) and may buy that part in anticipation of trouble when I eventually have to do the job.

Anyone enquiring regarding parts? Speak to a guy named Joe. Though i don't think he's that savy with Bongos, he does have an open mind!

Now the price.... If anyone knows cheaper please step up.. Bear in mind the Ford transit equivalent is about 40 quid!!!

FE3815966 BOLT ADJUST this part alone was £11.53.. In fairness you really only need this bit that sheers!?

The nut was £1.88

The long bolt £6.74...

Then there was the sharp intake of breath & the "dreaded Vee Aye Tee"...

It was an up front gamble on my part, but the return was peace of mind with the belts..
