The Valve clearance should be checked at every major service.

It's a good point Rita. At what intervals should a Bongo have a major service. Doesn't get discussed a lot!

Have to fess up and say my tappets got adjusted at 125k miles when i had a new head fitted

Hi, would my 99 V6 have hydraulic Tappets as I have been told they have. They have become quite noisey on start up but stops when warm. Any advice please would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum :). Yes, your V6 has hydraulic tappets. Might we worth an oil and filter change but don't use an engine flush as I found that made them slightly noisier.

New oil and filter done and sounds a lot better. Still here it a bit so should I be concerned at all. Has anyone had success taking the sump off and checking the oil pick ups. This was also recommended

Wilbaforce1 , instead of removing the sump etc , personally I would simply check the Oil Pressure, if its ok the HLA are probably getting past their sell by date.

If the oil pressure is in range it is sometimes best to leave and let it develop, but if you are feeling "Brave" you could remove the HLAs strip, check for wear , clean prime and refit. A word of Warning if this procedure is not carried out properly you can have severe difficulty starting the engine .You may actually need to fit a new set in order to restart the engine..
