Gear trouble - NO flashing hold light

Hi, folks!

Trouble started yesterday - high revs before changing up, or have to back off almost to the point of decelerating - doesn't go into top. No flashing hold light, but can confirm the bulb works.

I'm massively strapped for time so while I'd usually trawl the forum and get in about understanding it, any chance of a leg up??

'96 4WD AT

ATF is a few years old but clean and level appears good.

Matt.

check the usual matt. air filter, banjo and fuel filter, then check the turbo pipe to the intercooler and back to the inlet manifold.
thin black pipe from air inlet manifold bend at driverside front to the top of the pump, this gets full of crud.
switch /wire /plug for gearbox on side of gearbox check connection.

I had those exact symptoms and a change of ATF and clean filter sorted it out but I appreciate you say yours is done.

Doesn't feel loaded, just replaced front pads last night, will check rear.

Edit: lower bolt to carrier is a bit sticky - boot perished, uneven wear on one of those offside pads.

Can't rule it out, though.

Will get the multimeter on it shortly.

Air filter looks fine. Thin black pipe to pump is fine. Only thing a visual check threw up is tremendously oily/cruddy hose clamps on the manifold side of the intercooler - just 3 or 4 inches worth - everything else around that area looks fine though. Haven't removed to inspect inside yet. EGR is blanked, but it is losing oil over time, so maybe turbo seals going?

Connected TAT to GND - getting code 16 from hold light (and FAT pin). Could be 10 and 06 - but think it's 16.

Removed battery(s), held brake pedal. 10s long enough?

Haven't driven yet - getting same code immediately. 16 not listed?

Edit: having read http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/view ... =3&t=71627, code 06 would indicate speed sensor, and fit with symptoms. If so, what is 10? If not, what is 16??

the speed sensor on the bottom front of the engine sometimes gets oil behind it, remove the 10mm nut then pull gently as there is an O ring seal, wipe out the socket it fits into then wipe the sensor face and refit.

http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/view ... or#p579929.

theres also the gearbox speed sensor, search gearbox sensor by simon jones, theres loads of info and pics, this could link back to the tps etc.

I brought a wire out from the ECU for logging the TPS, so these measurements are effectively taken at the ECU.

Closed - 0.8V
Open - 3.9V

By the book, it's 1.3V and 4.2V respectively.

Doesn't smell like the cause to me...

Edit: though http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/view ... =3&t=69418 suggests that TPS faults can be temperature related. I'll put a simple voltmeter on the end of my TPS wire and monitor when driven.

Does the fact the rev counter work discount engine speed sensor, or is that taken from elsewhere?
