Fixing seat runners

Post by Razor » Wed Feb 21, 2018 12:00 am

Well another busy day on the bongo today, insulating, fitting wooden floor and refitting runners and seat belt points, a question to those more experienced on these matters, I have refitted the front runners onto the new floor with new bolts and spacers into the original fixing points my question is do you think this will impact the insurance as the runners are fitted through the wooden floor and therefore will have more flexibility at the anchoring points,

The only real answer is to declare it as a 'modifaction' and see what they say.

Problem is I doubt they will understand what you've done and either give a flat "No" or load the premium way off the scale. :(

Is this part of a camper conversion which would be a pretty normal mod?

As Bob says, anything that is not factory fitted is a modification in the eyes of the insurance world - who will be delighted to reject any future claim. It's not many years ago I was told the fitting of winter tyres on BMW steel wheels by the main BMW dealer would be classified as a modification and I'd have to pay an excess on my premuim. Fortunately things have changed a bit as winter tyres have become more common place.

I have drilled the flooring and fitted spacers the same depth so I will leave it at that,
Thanks one and all.

Just a thought as the seat belts are now not in the right position with the seats reversed could the belts be fitted to the front seat mounting points or is there’s an alternative?,thanks in advance,
Razor.

If you've reversed the middle seat there is no requirement for seat belts.

I'm not sure how you would get on fitting two belts to one fixing point, and don't know how you would fix to the bottom point.
