Can someone identify the part I need replaced? (2.5TD Coolant system)
Well, what started as a small job just turned into a big job
The metal broke on this T shaped connector when I tried to remove the hose,
I'm guessing it was corroded or something and that was what was causing the leak rather than the pipe itself.
Looks like the whole thing needs to be replaced now , whatever it is

thermostat housing, it contains the thermostat for the cooling system.
15-176b on this drawing. if you click on the number given it will highlight the part number on the left side of the drawing. or ring bongospares.
its just the top half you need, but i would get a second hand complete one as the bolts can snap when splitting in half to remove the stat.
you will also need a new gasket to engine, see drawing, and you may as well fit a new thermostat, gen mazda are best, not copy parts.
all available from ian at the fury shop or mazda dealerships can order for you.
http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html.
make sure the fitter is aware that the system will need to bled CORRECTLY after this has been done.

Thanks Northern Bongolow
We have since removed it and in the process we figured out what it was

My brother reckons the metal pipe could be brazed back on but id rather fit a new one considering how fiddly it was to take off.
I'll want replacement pipes for the two small pipes off the thermostat housing.
Can I replace the metal clips for regular jubilee clips? They seem a bit stronger to me
I had a look at that parts list Northern Bongolow provided and I'm still unsure of which part number I need
The thermostat housing that I took off had 752007 printed on it if thats any help

Re: Can someone identify the part I need replaced? (2.5TD Coolant system)
Thanks knpenny, I've decided I'm going to support the shop on here so I'll order new ones
Shopping list so far....
New thermostat,
Thermostat housing and gasket,
Both small hoses and 2 pairs of matching clips
Where I'm stuck now is on the thermostat housing part number, its got 752007 printed on it but I can't find anything that looks similar online.
Hopefully Ian will recognise it

Taste it, sounds weird but it will help.
Looks brown like coolant from the pics, but could be oil.
If it's coolant could be water pump leaking and being lifted by the spinning of the fan belts or airflow, are you loosing coolant ?.
Or could be oil from the camshaft seal or crank seal on crankshaft both again picked up on the airflow or belts.
If you look forward of the leak pictured you will see a gap behind the timing belt cover, engine oil leaks behind this cover may contaminate the timing belt and lead to a belt failure.
Leaking front coolant pipe or rad being blown back to the engine bay also maybe worth checking.

Re: Can someone identify the part I need replaced? (2.5TD Coolant system)
I think you might be on the right track Northern Bongolow.
When I touched it you could see that the colour of it was orange on your skin so I'm pretty sure it's coolant on top of an old layer of oil.
I had to top up the coolant in the reservoir on two different days during the last 2 weeks which would be unusual.
I topped up the day after it was drove each day as the alarm went off indicating low coolant, only a small amount of coolant was needed either day so I don't think it needs to be bled.
Anyway, I found this when I investigated further.

Looking like it was this tiny little hose, there was a vacuum in it
