Diesel engine will not rev over 2000

Post by marktomblin » Mon Feb 18, 2019 9:15 pm

Hi guys I am new here so hope I have put this question in the right place .
My 1995 diesel bongo will not rev past 2000 rpm it was given to me as it was just sat in a field I managed to get it started easy enough and there wasn’t much wrong as regards bits being siezed etc. I have given everything I can see a liberal dose of WD 40 and all linkages seem to work but floor it and it sticks at 2000 rpm it ticks over fine and temp gauge stays in the middle no horrible smoke . Am at a loss as to what else to try please help all the best mark

There's a little pipe i believe that runs i think from the turbo to the fuel pump. If it has fallen off etc it produces exactly the symptoms you describe. Hopefully a techie on here can give a better description, or have a search of old threads as its been discussed before. And take a look around there to see if you can identify anything that looks disconnected. Good luck and keep us posted.

Well today I checked for pipes loose or off I couldn’t find any, my new fuel filter arrived so I fitted it .....now the blighter will hardly run at all there is a weird buzzing noise from somewhere near the back of the engine when you press the throttle pedal down about half way with just the ignition switch on .The engine will start but only just it’s obviously a fuel problem but what . Is there a fuel pump on these before the fuel filter? I have put in two gallons of premier diesel I have now run out of ideas any help would be much appreciated thanks mark.

Did you check the banjo filter (not the same as the main fuel filter).

Hopefully you cleaned and replaced the Banjo filter, not just left it OUT!

No I left it out on the advise of a diesel fitter apparently this is a very common fault and the guy said they usually throw them , I have kept mine though.

I wonder why Mazda fitted an item that wasn't needed when it was designed ?????
Yes fitters leave them out cause they can't charge much for sorting that problem, whilst they can charge more for sorting out the result of the burnt rubbish left in your cylinders, exhaust manifold etc. ;-)
