Adding remote central locking - wiring help please

Post by Brimfulof » Fri Mar 13, 2020 12:04 pm

I'm trying to add remote central locking, fitting it in the driver's side door as per the fact sheet in the members' area.

I need some help with where to connect the "Negative pole (grounded)" wires. Should these be connected to the two non-live wires in the existing central locking system?

In the diagram below I'm using Figure D (set up 2).

Central locking is already fitted, operated by the switch built into the drivers lock.
If your fitting a remote fob, then the module needs +12v (Blue/Red) and Earth (Black). The added solenoid needs to be connected to the module as per Diagram D in your picture, the Negative Pole grounded connections pick up the Black earth wire and the +12v pickup the Blue/Red.
There is no electrical connection to the central door locking switch at all, central locking is carried out at a mechanical level.

Thanks very much for your help with this Geoff.

I'm feeling like a real dunce. It's taken me ages to get the actuator in place. Thought I'd find the electrics really simple, but I am struggling with what, I'm sure, should be a simple job.

Am I right in assuming that these are the +12v (Blue) and Earth (Black)?

It looks like I also need to connect the +ve and -ve directly as well (red and black on diagram below). So I can I just wire all three required +ves to the Blue wire in the image above? Where in the door is a -ve is that the green/white wire?

Can't really say from that photo, those wires are the wires to a device not the loom colours, the loom is wrapped in insulation and you can normally only see the colours as they enter the connector itself. I never trust the colours on the wires to a device as these are bought in by the manufactures and they don't always follow the loom colours, often when they run out they just use what ever is available!
This is the actual door loom on its own;

Yes, you're right. Colours on the other side of that connector are completely different.

The 12v +ve is blue with a thin red line - as you said.
The other two are white with a thin black line and yellow with a thin orange line.

So I think what I need to do is to connect:

Remote unit
Battery +ve (red - fused)
Positive 12v (yellow)
Positive 12v (yellow/black)
-->All to Blue/red (on loom)

Remote unit
Battery -ve (black)
Negative pole (orange)
Negative pole (orange black)
-->All to White/black (on loom)

Do not make any connections to the Yellow/Red wire OR to the White/Black wire you do not need to touch those at all.

You can pickup +12 volts from any loom wire which is coloured Blue/Red.

You can pickup earth/ground/neutral from any Black (only) wire.

The only other two connections are from the solenoid you have fitted in the door and use the diagram D to connect them.

Ok. Thanks. There's a black from the electric windows I can access easily.

Thanks again for all your help.
